Chapter 171
Jaxon gently helped Serena to sit back on the bed and passed her his handkerchief. She sniffled as he collected it and used it to gently wipe her tears and snot.
He motioned for Jaxon to pass him the glass of water that was on the bedside drawer. Jaxon took off the lid and passed the water to Serena, she collected it and drank the water in large gulps.
She held the glass tightly with both hands and rested it on her lap. When Jaxon felt like she had calmed down enough to start talking he started asking her questions.
“What happened? How and why did you disappear at the very last moment? I looked all over for you, I had my men searching for you but they couldn’t find you. Did you run away on your own accord or were you forced to?” Jaxon asked all the questions that were disturbing him. He wanted to know she had managed to stay off the radar for so long and why she came back looking so battered and bruised.
“I did not run away Jaxon, I was kidnapped. Why would I run away when I had willingly agreed to marry you? The contract was beneficial to me as well and I was super excited for the wedding so I decided to visit you one last time to make sure everything was in order. When I noticed a car following me, I ignored it at first thinking my mind was playing tricks on me but I ended up getting kidnapped.
When I got to an empty street a group of men came down from the car and attacked me. They beat me up and I lost consciousness, when I regained my consciousness I found myself tied up in a stinky room.” Jaxon felt stupid. How did he not even think about the possibility of her getting kidnapped to hinder his plans? He had so many enemies who wanted to cause him discomfort in any way possible but who knew about his relationship with Serena?
“I should have known better! And I warned you to stop roaming about at night. Why didn’t you listen to me?” Jaxon groaned.
“I was too excited to remember that Jaxon.” Serena whispered.
“What happened next?” Jaxon asked. Serena’s eyes glazed over and she had a faraway look on her face. It looked like she was remembering the past and the memories seemed to be unpleasant. Jaxon could just imagine the inhumane treatment she received while she was being held hostage.
“My life turned upside down from there. Every hour I was stuck in that place felt like an eternity. I had prayed and begged for death to take me into its cold embrace countless times but it never came.
I was beaten and tortured everyday until I passed out from the pain and then they would treat me so I don’t bleed out and die.
I begged and pleaded with them to let me go but they acted as if they could not hear me, I even offered them everything, my money, house, car everything I owned but they refused.
It was a torture being so close to dying and getting freedom only to be pulled back into the cold cell I was locked in. I had no access to good food or water. I was given one cup of water daily and the trash they called food came only once in two days.” Jaxon was horrified. He knew that he was a part of the bratva and he also tortured people but why would someone go to such extreme lengths to torture Serena? And if she had been kidnapped for ransom why did he not receive any calls?
He wondered what Serena had ever done to deserve such ill treatment from anyone. If the person just wanted to get back at him then why was she tortured so badly? Why wasn’t she killed instead? So many things were not adding up and Jaxon felt his mind reeling with all the new information.
“Why were you kidnapped? Have they never mentioned the reason why you got kidnapped and why was your death faked? Who was the person in the pictures that the police had taken? Who had committed suicide?” Jaxon asked and Serena’s body shivered in fright. Jaxon could feel how tense she felt talking about this but it had to be done.?
“All I know is that they forced me to write a suicide note. They planned my death saying something about not wanting anyone to find out that I was still alive until their boss had decided that I had suffered enough and she killed me with her own hands.
The suicide was all fake, the death certificate, autopsy it was all planned.” Serena’s voice cracked towards the end and Jaxon clenched his fists in anger.
Whoever it was that had dared to do all these to Serena, he must be so daring and bold. Jaxon groaned in annoyance as he ran his hands through the short strands of his hair.
“What happened? Did they get tired and freed you or…?” Jaxon asked blankly.
“They could never get tired of beating me. They had turned me into their mini punching bag where they poured out all their anger and frustration but I managed to escape. ” Serena’s face was crestfallen as she narrated everything to Jaxon. Her voice was filled with pain and her eyes were shining with unshed tears.
“Can you recognize their faces and voices? Do you know your kidnappers boss? The one that kept giving out instructions. Do you know who it is?” Jaxon asked through clenched teeths. Serena nodded and Jaxon breathed a sigh of relief. Looks like his job of hunting them would be so much easier.
“Tell me. Who is your kidnapper?” Jaxon asked angrily.
“It is June.” Serena revealed and Jaxon growled angrily as he remembered all the times that she had annoyingly barged into his office and home. He should have known! She was too obsessed to watch him get married to someone else.
