Ruby was sad.
Jaxon could tell even though she always pretended to be okay and happy.
Half of the time, she was lost in her head, thinking and daydreaming, and sometimes, she could see the guilt and tears she tried so desperately to hide from him.
She was affected by Kimberly’s death and even though Jaxon had seen it coming he still felt
sad and angry.
He was annoyed at the fact that Ruby was mourning for someone who had gone through so
much to make her life a living hell.
He was annoyed that she still cared about a person that almost killed her.
He wondered how one could be so soft-hearted and strong at the same time. It was one of the
qualities he loved most about her but he hated this time around.
She tried to appear strong and unaffected before him but Jaxon could see the sadness buried deep within her eyes. And he tried to calm everything down before she fully recovered so she didn’t have another thing to worry about.
The news of their contract had died down all thanks to his connections and it was almost
completely wiped off the internet.
He made sure to take care of everything and utilized his image and power to get his way.
Jaxon made sure that he was always there for her.
He kept her fed and rested. He didn’t allow her to stress herself, move unnecessarily, or even speak too much until the doctor gave her the go-ahead to do so.
Jaxon made sure she didn’t lack anything and Ruby felt blessed.
She could understand why Kimberly wanted Jaxon so badly. He was a total package.
Jaxon walked into the room with a tray and Ruby smiled warmly as she sat upright. Jaxon placed the tray on her lap and Ruby’s senses tingled as the sweet aroma of the soup wafted through the air.
“It smells divine, babe.” Jaxon smiled.
“Just wait until you taste it,” Jaxon replied and Ruby’s eyes sparkled as she motioned for him to
feed her.
Jaxon laughed at her cute antics and took the spoon.
He scooped the steaming beef soup and softly blew on it before bringing the spoon to her lips. Ruby was excited as she took the first bite and she could swear she saw stars.
Her taste buds hummed at the sweet flavor and she excitedly opened her mouth to receive
more.
Jaxon fed her with a smile on his face until she finished the last bowl.
He walked into the bathroom and prepared a bath for her just as she liked.
“Go and take your bath Gem, you have been cooped up for a long time in this house. We are
going out today.” Ruby’s smile widened and she excitedly got down from the bed.
“Really! Where are we going?” Ruby asked.
“Hurry before the water turns cold.” Jaxon smiled as he pushed her towards the bathroom door.
Ruby glared at him and went in. Jaxon walked into their closet and selected a matching set of black joggers and baby blue shirts for them.
He changed into his and waited for Ruby to finish her bath.
They had just arrived at Keith’s house and Ruby was a nervous wreck. She tightly clutched Jaxon’s arm and pleaded with her eyes for them to go back but Jaxon softly smiled at her.
“It’s going to be fine Gem. There’s nothing to worry about.” Jaxon reassured her and Ruby took
a deep breath as he pressed the doorbell.
The door was softly opened and Ruby’s eyes widened when she saw Grandpa Keith. He was
surprised to see them and pulled her into a hug.
Ruby felt a sudden calmness and she smiled as he pulled away from the hug.
Ruby had expected Keith to still be angry at her over the party incident. She was scared he
would completely ignore her presence but he looked genuinely happy to see her and she felt at
ease.
Keith led them into the house and the couple sat on the couch, with Keith opposite them.
“How have you been Ruby? I was so worried about you when I heard the news…” Keith said.
“I’m all healed up now. Thank you, Grandpa.” Ruby sweetly replied.
“That’s good. How did you take the news of your contract getting out there?” Keith asked curiously.
“Not too well.” Ruby honestly replied.
“I thought as much but you need to start getting used to it. Things like that happen to every influential person and if you allow it to get to you, you’ll end up being depressed.” Ruby nodded.
Keith ordered the butler to bring them some juice and snacks.
Ruby and Keith were happily chatting as they munched on the cookies and Jaxon smiled at the
scene.
He hated the fact that he had to leave but he couldn’t bounce this meeting, it was very important.
“Gran, I’m sorry to interrupt your tea time, but I need to leave.” Ruby pouted and Jaxon smiled as he kissed her pout away.
“Children have no shame these days.” Keith shook his head fondly and sipped his orange juice.
“I’ll come pick you up as soon as I finish my meeting.” Ruby nodded and smiled as Jaxon placed a gentle kiss on her forehead and left.
Ruby and Keith had fun talking and they did some gardening together until the butler announced
that it was time for lunch.
They had a hearty meal and Ruby couldn’t remember the last time she had so much fun. She
had laughed so much that she felt like her stomach might start aching from too much laughter.
They went back to the living room and Keith brought out a large photo album. Ruby was curious and Keith smiled as he placed it on his lap and started going through the pictures.
“Is this who I think it is?” Ruby couldn’t help herself as she started laughing uncontrollably.
“That’s Jaxon. He was three years old and he hated bath time! He would always run around the
house naked, screaming at the top of his lungs as if he was going to be killed.” Keith smiled fondly as they stared at the picture, it captured the raw unfiltered emotion of the child who was throwing a tantrum. He had tears streaming down his face, and his small, chubby hands were clenched into fists as he ran down the stairs.
Ruby must admit her husband was cute as a child. She started to feel uneasy. She has been feeling sick for some time now and it looked like the sickness was back.
Her stomach started to churn and she abruptly stood up. Keith looked up at her and Ruby ran
towards the restroom with her hands clasped in her mouth.
She opened the toilet bowl and groaned in pain as she threw up all that she had eaten minutes
ago. Her mouth felt disgusting and she sighed as she stood up and went to the sink.
She turned on the tap and took a mouthful of water to rinse her mouth.
“Are you pregnant Ruby?” Nana suddenly asked as she stood by the door.
Ruby jumped in surprise as some water splattered on the floor.
