Jaxon’s eyes were filled with worry as he caught Ruby in his arms, his hands trembling with fear
and desperation as he tried to stop the flow of blood with the sleeve of his shirt.
His eyes are wide with panic, his mind a hurricane of questions and worries as he holds her close, her body limp and vulnerable in his arms.
Jaxon started to panic as her blood slowly soaked his sleeve and he quickly took off his suit
jacket. He used it to press the injury to stop the bleeding. He was worried but also glad that the knife cut was not deep.
After the bleeding stopped Jaxon stood up with Ruby nestled in his arms as he rushed out of the house.
Jaxon was anxious as he ran to the car.
Ruslan didn’t notice he was back until he kicked the car with his foot. He ran out of the car and gasped in shock when he saw Jaxon holding a bloodied Ruby.
He quickly opened the door for him and ran back to the driver’s seat.
“Which hospital sir?” Ruslan asked.
“Is that even a question? Just drive damn it.” Jaxon angrily yelled.
Throughout the journey, he kept checking her neck and made sure she was breathing just fine.
Jaxon’s heart was aching, he felt like he couldn’t breathe properly as he looked at her pale face.
His face was filled with worry and despair as he slowly reached out his hands softly brushing a strand of hair out of her face. Jaxon was livid.
He regretted why he didn’t arrive sooner on the scene. Maybe if he had arrived sooner he would have stopped Kimberly before she harmed Ruby. He regretted killing her so fast.
She deserved to suffer every minute of her life before dying. He blamed his anger and fear, he had been so blinded by rage when he saw Ruby bleeding that he shot her without giving it a second thought.
At that moment he had only wanted to get rid of the one that was bold enough to harm his wife in such a brutal way.
Was she truly her sister? Jaxon doubted that. They couldn’t be more different.
Ruby was willing to give up everything to make sure her sister was okay while Kimberly was willing to go to any lengths to snatch all that Ruby had. It was as if she was allergic to seeing Ruby happy.
“Are we there yet?” Jaxon asked Ruslan.
“We are almost there boss.” He answered and sped up the car.
Jaxon sighed as he brought his fingers to Ruby’s nose.
His heart felt like it would jump out through his mouth and his whole body was wrecked with nervousness. His nerves were all over the place and he was scared.
“What would I have done if I had arrived a little later and found Ruby brutally injured or worse dead?” Jaxon thought.
He shivered at that thought and groaned in the back of his throat.
The car came to a stop and the driver rushed to open the door for him.
Jaxon got down and sprinted through the halls of the hospital, with Ruby limp in his arms as he raced towards the emergency room.
His breath comes in short, desperate gasps as he runs, his feet pounding against the tiled floor.
His eyes were wild in worry and desperation as he shouted for help, his voice cracking with emotions as he begged the doctors to save her life.
Nurses came with a stretcher and Jaxon gently placed her on it as they rolled it into a room.
A team of doctors and nurses hovered around her, their voices a low, urgent murmur as they worked to stabilize her condition. The doctor hurriedly examined her neck and breathed a sigh of relief when he noticed that the cut was not deep.
He asked the nurse to dress her neck so it didn’t get infected and gave her a shot of pain relief injection.
The doctor stepped aside and watched the nurse as she cleaned Ruby’s wound.
Her movements were slow and deliberate as she applied a fresh dressing to the wound on Ruby’s neck.
The fabric is soft and white, contrasted with the pinkish hue of her skin as it covered the injury.
They all came out of the room and Jaxon immediately walked up to the doctor.
“How is she?” Jaxon’s nerves were all over the place and the doctor smiled softly.
“Thankfully, it was not a deep cut, so she is fine. She is still unconscious but she will be awake in the next hour.” The doctor replied and Jaxon breathed a sigh of relief.
“Thank you, doctor. Can I see her now?” Jaxon’s voice was thick with emotions.
“Of course you can, but once she wakes up, you have to call the nurse and make sure she doesn’t talk much. It will be bad to strain her vocal cords. They are currently sensitive.” Jaxon nodded.
He felt like all his nerves had dissipated into thin air as he walked into the hospital room. Ruby looked so peaceful as she slept.
He sat on the chair by her bedside and clasped his hand in his. He placed kisses on her knuckles as he studied her features. She looked so fragile lying in the hospital bed with the bandage wrapped around her neck.
…..
Ruby’s eyelids fluttered, the soft light of the hospital room filtering through her lashes as she slowly regained consciousness.
She blinked, her vision blurry and unfocused as she struggled to make out the shapes and colors of the room.
Jaxon smiled softly as he gently squeezed her hands. Ruby turned to him and returned the smile.
“How do you feel?” Jaxon asked.
“Surprisingly okay.” Ruby’s voice sounded hoarse and Jaxon gently pulled her into a sitting position on the bed.
He took the bottle of water that was by the bedside and brought it to her lips.
Ruby took small sips and pushed the water bottle away.
“I’m glad you are fine. Don’t stress yourself and only speak when it’s necessary, your throat is sensitive.” Ruby nodded slowly.
“How is Kim?” Ruby asked.
“Dead,” Jaxon replied and Ruby didn’t even flinch. She didn’t know how to feel. She felt empty.
Like she hadn’t just lost a family member, she didn’t feel sad or the need to shed a tear. Jaxon climbed the bed and pulled her into his arms.
“You are never allowed to go anywhere without me again.” Ruby smiled as she wrapped her arms around him and inhaled his soothing scent.
“I won’t. How is everything at the office?” Ruby whispered.
“It has all been taken care of, you just need to relax and get better,” Jaxon whispered. She needed to stop thinking about others and focus on herself.
