Ruby was terrified and her heart pounded so loudly in her chest that she could hear it. Why had she come here? She thought as her eyes watered and tears flowed down her cheeks in steady streams.
She glanced at Kim who was staring at her with a psychotic look in her eyes. She had never seen Kim like that before. Hair in disarray, malnourished and looking all around tattered. She didn’t even dare to look Kim directly in her eyes for fear that it would anger her.
“Kim, please don’t do this.” She whispered. She couldn’t even breathe properly because she feared the knife Kim held against her throat would cut her.
“Shut up! You are in no position to be demanding for anything.” Kim hissed with so much anger that Ruby could not recognize the voice of her sister anymore.
“Please Kim, I’m begging you. You don’t have to do this. We can talk about this, we-”
“Quiet!” Kim yelled furiously and Ruby felt the knife as it dug into her throat slightly. Ruby felt the stinging pain of her injury and cried harder than before. Why was this happening to her? Why did things like this always happen to her?
“I don’t care what you have to talk about!” Kim yelled out like a maniac. Ruby’s heart thudded in her chest and the very real fear that she was going to die grew by the second.
Ruby tried to wriggle in a fool’s attempt to get out of Kim’s grasp but Kim held her tightly and dug her nails in her arm until she drew blood.
“Stay still.” Kim warned lowly.
“It won’t hurt very much, I promise. Just one slash and it would be over. You won’t even remember what you were scared of in the first place.” Kim told her and smiled. The smile Kim had on her face looked very much like a maniac’s and Ruby cried hysterically.
She thought about Jaxon and the fact that they hadn’t had the chance to do so many things together. And with what was happening, she didn’t think they ever would. She was going to die.
“You think you’re so much better than me huh? Just because you married Jaxon?” Kim screamed at her. Kim glared at her so hard that even without the knife she was holding, she was sure only that look alone would have had her six feet under.
“Kim, please don’t do this.” She begged helplessly.
“I told you to keep quiet!” Kim let out and pressed the knife deeper. Ruby held her breath so the knife wouldn’t dig in deeper. She was already bleeding and she knew it was a matter of time before either Kim sliced her throat open and killed her or she passed out from blood loss.
Her head was pounding along with her heart and Ruby thought she would explode from the fear she felt alone.
“Please,” she whispered. She was running out of options fast and she needed something, anything to convince Kim not to do what she set out to do. She didn’t want to die now, and definitely not like this.
“Please,” Kim mocked with that savage smile.
“You can beg all you want to but nothing is going to change my mind from killing you. In fact, you should be thanking me for giving you such an easy and nearly painless death.” She spoke again as a thoughtful look crossed her features.
“How can you be such a monster?” Ruby accused in a hushed tone. She didn’t look Kim in the eyes because her heart would squeeze at seeing the shell of the sister she once knew and loved.
“Monster, huh?” Kim laughed then tilted her head and regarded her with that crazed look in her eyes.
“I’m not a monster. I’m simply a product of all the things you’ve put me through Ruby.” She told Ruby in a calm voice, too calm. And Ruby knew she was anything but.
“But if you want me to be the monster, I’ll be the monster.” Kim continued in a sinister voice.
“And no one is coming to save you, trust me on that. No one. Not even your “husband” Jaxon.” She mocked slowly.
Ruby prayed silently, and she prayed hard. She hoped Jaxon found her on time because Kim had become more unstable as the minutes passed and she feared Kim would suddenly lose it and attack her with the knife. Kim’s eyes were bloodshot like she hadn’t slept in days and Ruby thought as much.
Bile rose in Ruby’s throat from the situation taking a toll on her and she felt sick and wanted to throw up. She felt light headed and she knew she would faint if help didn’t come on time or if Kim didn’t kill her first. She shook the daze and gritted her teeth in determination. Kim noticed.
“Oh, suddenly feel bold?” Kim asked and Ruby bit the inside of her cheek in anger. She struggled against Kim and Kim’s face squeezed into and ugly expression. Kim pushed the knife against her neck, and this time it went deeper and drew more blood.
“Pathetic.” Kim spat.
Blood had soaked through Ruby’s clothes and she struggled to breathe because of the cut in her neck. She tried her best to breathe slowly and not choke on her own blood as Kim watched her with undisguised satisfaction.
Just then, a door swung open from a distance and she heard a loud bang. Kim stilled and Ruby couldn’t hold it anymore and went into a coughing fit. Blood gushed from her mouth and throat and she nearly passed out from the sheer loss of blood alone.
She didn’t notice how still Kim had gone until Kim crumpled to the ground at her feet and she went pale. That was when she noticed Jaxon stood at the door with his gun in hand still pointing at where Kim had stood. He had shot Kim. Everything went black.
Jaxon rushed in and saw that Kim held a knife against Ruby’s throat. He didn’t even think twice before he fired his gun at her. He shot to kill. Kim fell and that was when he got a full view of his Gem, all battered and bloodied. He made his way over to her just in time to catch her as she fainted in his arms.
