Ruby’s whole body was wrecked with shivers of fright as she dropped the phone call. She was scared.
She was scared not for herself but for Jaxon. She knew how cruel life can be to the rich and Jaxon has been ruling the business world for years. She knew that he had so many enemies waiting for the right opportunity to destroy him, and with the file in Kim’s possession, that could be arranged.
Ruby feared that an uproar would occur once the contents of the contract went out to the public and she could imagine how big a scandal it would turn into. The public isn’t as loving as they looked and who would know better than her?
People would talk and judge Jaxon without knowing his reasons, and his competitors would use the opportunity to run him out of business. She could picture his shareholders withdrawing from the company and leaving him bankrupt.
Ruby couldn’t allow that to happen. She felt a headache coming up and blinked her eyes repeatedly to clear her fogged-up vision.
She knew she had to calm down and think about the whole thing with a clear mind but she was scared of what Kim was capable of doing. If she would go as far as drugging her husband then she was capable of going to any lengths to achieve her revenge.
Ruby was worried about the contents of the contract. Everything was clearly written there. The terms and conditions of the contract are down to her getting paid. She groaned in annoyance as Kim’s annoying voice rang in her head.
“Did that ingrate even have any idea that I did that for her? Does she know that I went through all that because I needed the money for her treatment?” Ruby felt tears of frustration slowly rolling down her cheeks.
Ruby had married Jaxon for the money, she needed the money for the bitch Kimberly, and he needed a fake bride for some time even though they both ended up falling in love with each other, but that was not the initial agreement.
Ruby was angry at herself.
Why did she forget to destroy her own copy of the contract, just like Jaxon did when they officially started their relationship as a couple after the contract expired? She blamed herself for giving the enemy leverage over her.
Ruby was confused. She didn’t know what she was supposed to do now. Kim was blackmailing her, and she knew she had to do as she said, but where was she supposed to get such a huge amount of money from?
She didn’t have much in her account, and she always made use of the black card that Jaxon had gifted her for her shopping and other things, but she didn’t want him to get notified when she made the transaction.
The money was nothing to him but he would definitely ask once he noticed that she had sent it to Kimberly. Ruby did not want to raise suspicions in his heart and she didn’t want to answer questions she had no answers to.
Ruby felt like crying herself to sleep. She couldn’t deal with the stress and she felt like all her energy had been drained and she might faint at any moment.
She stood up and walked to the closet. She started rummaging through her jewelry box and her eyes sparkled when she saw a diamond necklace that Jaxon had gifted her.
The diamond necklace was like a shimmering curtain of light, each diamond a perfect, glittering gem that catches the eye and holds it captive. Ruby’s heart clenched painfully as she softly touched the necklace.
Ruby knew it was worth a fortune and it could help her pay off Kim. With a heavy heart, she walked out of the room and house with the necklace cradled softly in her hands.
Ruby walked into the jewelry store with a sad expression on her face. She took a deep breath to ease her nerves and walked to the counter.
After exchanging pleasantries with the clerk she removed the necklace from her bag and gently placed it on the glass surface of the counter.
Her voice was steady as she expressed her intention to sell the jewelry and the clerk’s eyes widened in appreciation as he examined the necklace with his binoculars, admiring the beauty and craftsmanship of the piece of art.
His smile widened as he confirmed the authenticity of the jewelry.
“It is a very beautiful necklace indeed and I’m interested in purchasing it.” Ruby sighed in relief.
She came out of the store and immediately transferred the money to Kim. Her blood was boiling in anger and she felt like she might explode if she didn’t express it.
Ruby angrily dialed Kim’s number on her phone, she tapped her foot on the ground impatiently as the phone rang.
“What is it?” Kim said in an irritated voice. She sounded like she had just woken up from sleep and Ruby felt the anger bubbling within her increase. Her hold on the phone tightened, and her breath became more erratic.
How could she sleep peacefully after depriving her of her own sleep?
“I want you to listen and listen well because I will not repeat myself ever again.
I have sent the money you wanted to you and I want you to keep your end of the deal. Keep that file away from the public just as we agreed and stay away from me. I want nothing to do with you again, you are no longer my sister!
Stay away from my home, my home, and my husband. I don’t want to ever see you hovering around my husband. Go get a life!” Ruby angrily ranted and Kimberly sneered.
“Fake husband you mean. You have no right to tell me what I can and cannot do. If I want to be with your fake husband, I will, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” Deep down, Kim knew that Jaxon was now Ruby’s husband for good because she saw that the contract had expired long ago, and they were still together.
She could also see the love that they shared and that alone made her bitter.
Ruby didn’t want to hear any more trash talk from Kim and angrily hung up.
