Ruby was tired. Physically and mentally. Why was it that when her life was finally focusing on the right path, something would borrow through and throw her in for a loop? She sighed as she thought about her current predicament with Kim and she was hurt and angry. Those two emotions fought for dominance within her but neither had succeeded.
She was hurt because it was her sister who was causing her so much pain, and she wondered if she ever really knew Kim. She couldn’t believe Kim would blackmail her and threaten to ruin her life all for money. Was Kim really that shallow?
Anger also came into play when she thought about the fact that she hadn’t destroyed that stupid contract when it had officially ended. If she had, none of this would be happening to her right now.
The fact that it was Kim who was using the contract against her didn’t help one bit, because if you had a sister like that, then who needed enemies?
She hadn’t even told Jaxon about all that was happening to her because she didn’t want him to worry. Especially since if Kim did release the contract to the press, it would affect his image and that of the company negatively and she didn’t want him to run into any trouble.
She had just gotten home, and all she wanted to do was lounge in a hot bath for like an hour then fall into bed and not wake up till morning. She pushed open the door and closed it softly behind her. She was about to head up the stairs when a voice called from the living room.
“Where have you been all day?” Jaxon asked from behind her and she froze. What was he doing at home so early?! And how hadn’t she noticed him when she entered? Panic started to rise within her chest but she shoved it down to try to be less suspicious. She turned around to face him with a smile, or at least what looked like it.
“Jaxon, I didn’t know you would come early today.” She told him as her gaze darted from his face to the rest of him. He was still dressed in the suit he had worn to the office, so she guessed he couldn’t have been home very long. She tried to read the expression on his face, but he gave nothing away, and his face remained stoic.
“I didn’t either. I thought to surprise you, and to my own surprise, you were nowhere to be found.” He stated and she noticed his gaze was roaming all over her face as well as every inch of her as he studied her.
“You know I don’t always sit at home Jaxon, sometimes I get bored.” She told him. She was trying her absolute best to steer the conversation in another direction because she sensed he wanted to know where she had gone a little too badly. He wasn’t usually like this.
“When you’re bored, you go shopping, and you take Ruslan or Lucas with you.” He stated again. That was true, she thought. She wanted to say something but he stopped her with a raised hand.
“And you ask me sometimes as well, or call me to let me know where you are going, so why was today a bit different?” He asked her, and that was when she caught the gleam of suspicion in his eyes. He was suspecting something.
“I do know I do all those things, but I didn’t go shopping today.” She defended. She tried to sound as genuine as possible and hoped he didn’t notice the slight wobble in her voice.
“I figured.” Jaxon deadpanned.
“So do you care to share where you went?” He asked her and she knew there was no going around the question.
“I went to Ophelia’s place. I really needed to see her.” She lied. She nearly sighed out as this was the best lie she could tell while under pressure.
“Then why didn’t you say that before?” Jaxon asked her and she almost groaned in frustration. Why wasn’t he letting this go?
“Yes, really, I wanted to see her, and I didn’t know it had gotten quite late until it was time to leave.” She said and nearly applauded herself on her well thought out lie, at least in her opinion.
“And besides, your questions were sounding like an interrogation and I got overwhelmed.” She defended herself, and he sighed.
“So you stayed at Ophelia’s place for over eight hours?” Oh, damn. She hadn’t thought about that.
“You could have told one of the drivers to take you there instead of going on your own,” Jaxon said and she stepped closer to him. This conversation was entering a dangerous territory and she had to do something to stop it.
“I wanted to be left alone, that’s why.” She whispered, then stood on her tiptoes and pressed his lips on hers to try to distract him and make him forget his question. He kissed her back briefly, then the next moment, he pulled away and peered down at her with unreadable eyes.
“Don’t distract me, Gem.” He whispered in her ear and she shivered.
“Okay, so back to where we left off… You wanted to be alone, but you went to Ophelia’s house, and that definitely is not how being alone works.” Well, she knew that, but she had said what she said, and she would stick with it.
“Then I went for a walk afterward.” She stated quickly and Jaxon gave her a suspicious look.
“Is that so?”
“Yes.” She sighed when Jaxon didn’t push further.
“Can you kiss me some more?” She whispered when he stopped but Jaxon seemed to be lost in thought.
Jaxon just stood and stared at her and she got impatient and pressed her lips against his for what looked like a moment. They stood like that for a while and kissed before she broke off the kiss and stared at him.
“Jaxon, I need you badly. Fuck me.” She let out breathlessly. She wanted to wipe her mind off from Kim, and this was how she would do it.
