Jaxon had just left for work and Ruby was bored. She missed him already and it hasn’t been up to an hour. She sighed as she thought of what to do with all the free time she had.
She was tired of just laying around and not doing anything. She looked around the room and her eyes sparkled as she saw some misplaced things.
She hurriedly stood up from the bed and hummed a cheerful tune as she flitted about the room, her eyes alight with excitement as she rearranged the furniture and decor. She fluffed pillows, straightened pictures, and fiddled with trinkets, her fingers danced as she happily put everything back in its original place.
The room was transformed. Each object was back in its original place, and one could see the thought, care, and effort that was put into arranging everything.
Ruby smiled in satisfaction as she stepped back to admire her handwork. She felt happy as she walked to the cozy bed and sat on the edge.
Her phone started to ring, and she hurriedly picked it off the bedside drawer, thinking it was Jaxon. Her smile was replaced by a confused look when she saw an unknown number flashing on the screen.
She didn’t know many people, and she hardly ever gave out her number to strangers, so being called by an unknown number was surprising.
She picked up the call and silently brought the phone to her ear. She didn’t say a word as she waited for the person on the other end to speak first.
“Hello Ruby, won’t you say hello to your lovely sister?” Kim’s voice came from the other end and Ruby’s face fell.
“You are no sister of mine and I don’t speak to bitches.” Ruby spat out.
“Touche. Unfortunately, I speak to bitches, especially the ones that I have a score to settle with.” Kimberly sweetly replied. Ruby’s fists clenched in annoyance. Kimberly’s voice brought back all the anger that she had managed to get rid of and she wondered why she called her.
“What the hell do you want now? Speak or I’m hanging up this instant.”
“You dare not hang up Ruby. Especially if you cared about your husband’s well-being and reputation. With the new information I have on you I can bring you both to your knees and destroy you in a matter of minutes.” Kimberly smirked.
“What the hell do you mean by that? What does hanging up on a lowlife have to do with my husband’s reputation?” Ruby started to feel antsy.
“You talk too much Ruby. If I were you, I would shut up and listen quietly, or else both you and your poor husband would be destroyed, and you should know by now that I don’t spew empty threats.” Ruby had a very bad feeling about what was about to come; she could hear the confidence in Kim’s voice, and it made her uncomfortable.
Ruby couldn’t think of what information Kim had about her husband that was capable of causing any damage to him but she also knew never to underestimate the enemy. Kimberly was a brat and big on revenge right from childhood so Ruby could imagine the lengths she would go to get some dirt on them.
“Why do you keep coming back into my life to destroy my peace and happiness? Isn’t it enough that you have already caused a breach between Jaxon and me? What more do you want?” Ruby angrily asked.
“Everything. I want everything that you have, Ruby, but that’s not why I called you today. Guess what I found lying around so carelessly in your room?” Ruby felt like her heart would beat out of her chest. Her hands felt clammy and she could feel the sweat beads forming on her forehead.
“What did you find?” Ruby softly asked.
“You know, I always wondered how you, of all people, ended up marrying the most eligible man in all of New York, and I got my answer today. I must say I was shocked that my timid, stupid, and gullible sister would go through with it.” Kimberly laughed loudly and Ruby felt like screaming at her to just go straight to the point. The suspense was killing her and she didn’t like where the conversation was heading to.
“What are you playing at? Stop beating around the bush and speak already.” Ruby groaned in annoyance as she angrily ran her hand through her hair.
“Why are you in such a hurry? Calm down and please speak softly, I’m fragile you know…” Ruby rolled her eyes in annoyance.
“But since you are so eager to find out let me be a darling and tell you. I found your contract, Ruby.” Ruby’s breath hitched and her eyes widened in shock.
“I found your marriage contract with Jaxon. You know I always thought you were innocent until I came across it. Just imagine the warm reception this contract will receive once it gets to the media.
Goodness! I can imagine all the wonderful interviews that you and your so-called husband would be dragged into. Do you even know what happens when the media gets even a speck of dust on an influential person?” Ruby’s fingers trembled as she clutched the phone to her ear, Her eyes were wide with fear, her pulse racing as adrenaline flooded her system.
“Don’t you dare! The contract is long gone and we are now a real couple. A happily married couple.” Ruby replied in a shaky voice and Kim laughed at her, she was enjoying every minute of this.
“I will show it to the public and watch from the sidelines as you get humiliated. Imagine Jaxon losing all that he worked so hard for over the years just because of your silly contract. Ahhh… I’m feeling so happy just thinking about it.” Kimberly smirked in satisfaction.
“Please…” Ruby begged.
“You are so shameless Ruby, you are nothing but a disgrace. I can’t imagine you would stoop so low for money and fame.” Ruby’s mind was racing frantically, she didn’t know what to do. She felt like screaming at the top of her lungs and cursing Kimberly.
“What do you want?” Kimberly smirked.
“I want 50 thousand dollars transferred to my account, or your contract goes viral, and if you dare to tell Jaxon about it, it will be goodbye to the business empire.” Ruby felt her blood run cold.
