Ruby left Kim alone and went to find Jaxon. He had been in a mood ever since he knew Kim would be living with them. But what could she do?
She couldn’t just leave her sister to fend for herself when she was potentially being stalked by the press. She had first-hand experience of what that was like and it wasn’t fun.
She also had the crippling fear that some bad people could use her sister to get to her then Jaxon. She didn’t even want to think about it.
She hadn’t forgotten the shooting at the mall and how Lucas had almost died because he saved her. She would be damned if she so much as put Kim in a similar position.
Ruby found Jaxon in their bedroom, theirs. Jaxon had practically demanded they share a room after they had made up. She still found it surreal how not so long ago she was prepared to leave because she thought that was what Jaxon had wanted.
And now, they had made up and were closer than they had ever been. Her heart warmed at how far they had come and she couldn’t have been happier.
“Jaxon,” she called gently as she approached the bed. He looked up from his phone and glanced at her with eyebrows raised in question.
“Hmm,”
“What are you doing?” She asked him.
“Oh, nothing in particular.” He told her, then sighed out loud. He gave her a pointed look and then said,
“When is she leaving?” He let out and Ruby rolled her eyes.
“Jaxon, don’t do this again.” She told him as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“I don’t see any reason why she can’t stay in a hotel. I’m perfectly capable of keeping the place secure. She should not have had to come here.” Jaxon grumbled and it was her turn to sigh.
He had never hidden the fact that he hadn’t been pleased with the way the situation had turned out. She was sure he had complained one too many times today about Kim being here.
“I want to keep an eye on her personally. If she’s in the hotel, I can’t see how she’s doing and phone calls won’t cut it.” Ruby told him with a pointed stare.
“Phone calls will and would have cut it. It’s not like you’re the one doing the protecting.” Jaxon complained some more. Her hands dropped helplessly to her side and she came and sat by him on the bed.
“So when is she leaving?” Jaxon voiced again and she fell back on the bed.
“I don’t know Jaxon, as soon as it’s safe I guess.”
“Good. I’ll make sure that happens as soon as possible.” He told her and she rolled her eyes. She knew that Jaxon didn’t want to say outright that he wanted Kim out of the house as soon as possible because she was her sister.
She was sure if it had been anybody else, Jaxon wouldn’t even bother to ask her and would simply have placed the person in a hotel or something and have it guarded.
“You really want her out of here, don’t you?”
“I want us alone as well.” He said.
“Don’t worry about Kim, you won’t even know she’s here.” Jaxon regarded her cooly, then said,
“I hope so.”
“I know so. Everything will be fine.” She reassured him. Jaxon leaned back on the bed and turned to her.
“I know a way you can make me feel even better,” he told her. Ruby had a feeling she knew where this was going but decided to play along.
“Oh, and what would that be?” She asked with a cheeky smile that matched his grin.
“Kiss me.” He told her without missing a beat.
“Your wish is my command.”
With that, Ruby placed a peck on his cheek and Jaxon shook his head.
“I said a kiss, not a peck.” He let out and Ruby chuckled.
“I was getting to that.” She leaned forward and let her lips rest on his.
The kiss started off slow and sweet then grew more passionate as time went on. Ruby pulled away, but not without a whine of protest from Jaxon. She kissed his other cheek, then his nose, his eyelids, and finally his forehead before she rested hers against it.
“I love you,” Jaxon whispered to her and his warm breath fanned her face.
“I love you too.” She replied, and her words were packed with every bit of emotion she was feeling.
Ruby shifted and then lay her head on his shoulder and they remained like that for some time. Ruby didn’t move and enjoyed the way his heart beat against her hand on his chest.
After a couple of minutes of lounging in each other’s company, Jaxon sat up bringing her with him so they would be in an upright position. Her head was still against his shoulder as Jaxon looked down at her.
“Now that your sister lives here, please tell her to stay the hell away from my things.” Jaxon voiced. They were back to his issues with Kim living with them.
“Jaxon…” She started but he stopped her.
“I’m being serious Gem. I don’t want her touching any of my things as long as she stays here, if she does and if she even does anything that puts me off, I won’t hesitate to throw her out. I’m only being lenient because she’s your sister.” Jaxon said to her and she nodded. She didn’t really think Kim would do anything like that but if this was how she kept the peace, then so be it.
“I’ll talk to her, though I doubt she would mess with your things.”
“I just want to make sure.” He told her.
“I know. And I’ll make sure she doesn’t get in your way.” Ruby said then relaxed against him.
Jaxon looked down at Ruby and thought about the situation. He was sure that Ruby thought he didn’t want anyone in their space, and that was part of it, but in truth, he just didn’t want Kim to be here. At all.
He felt there was more to her than met the eye but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
