Ruby was worried throughout the ride home. She felt helpless that there was nothing she could do to ease her sister’s pain.
She knew how painful and draining it was to be left behind by someone we loved. She had almost gone crazy the day she thought Jaxon would be getting rid of her, so she could just imagine what Kim was going through.
She sighed as she stared out the window. Jaxon glanced at her dejected look and shook his head. He placed his hand on her lap and Ruby turned around to face him.
“Stop worrying Gem, she is going to be fine.” Ruby sighed as the warmth of his hand slowly dipped into her skin. She placed her hand on his and intertwined them.
“I know that but I can’t help it. This is the first time I’ve seen her so distraught and hurt over a relationship.” Jaxon gently squeezed her hand and Ruby smiled at the comforting feeling.
“A relationship?” Jaxon’s brows furrowed. He knew his friend long enough to know that whatever he had with Kim was not a relationship.
“She should have seen it coming. I’m very sure Damon had made it clear from the beginning that it was nothing but a physical relationship, why did she agree if she knew she would end up catching feelings for him?” Jaxon didn’t feel the need to sugarcoat his words.
He has known Damon for years now and knows all about his sexcapades. Damon was not built for relationships and he was loud about it. He always opened up to his partners about his dislike for relationships.
Jaxon was very sure that he told Kimberly too and she just stupidly agreed without thinking about the future and her emotional capacity.
Who in their right senses catches feelings for their bed friend? It was just a friend with benefits, so why did she allow herself to catch feelings? Why didn’t she reject his offer from the very beginning if she wanted a real relationship?
“You can’t control love Jaxon. We are a typical example that love just happens.” Ruby replied.
“She still shouldn’t have agreed. No strings attached means no strings attached for Damon. He hates relationships and clingy women, I’m very sure he broke things off with Kim because of that exact reason.”
Ruby knew that Jaxon was right but she still couldn’t help but to worry and sympathize with Kim, she had always hated seeing her in pain. She felt like she had to protect her from anything that would cause her harm, after all, Kim was the only family she had left.
“He should have been nicer about it, he didn’t have to be so harsh and blunt. Kimberly mentioned that they were dating..” Ruby started to feel angry.
“I doubt. Damon does not date. Your sister misunderstood!”
“It’s their issue Ruby and they are both adults. We can’t help them decide how to end what they started.” Jaxon didn’t like how worried Ruby was. He didn’t see the big deal there. Kim chose to engage in the relationship with Damon knowing about all the consequences so why was she acting as though the world was going to end?
He hated how it was affecting Ruby.
“You don’t have to worry about this Gem, she is a grown woman and I’m sure she can take good care of herself.” Jaxon smiled softly and brought their intertwined hands to his own lap.
They were quiet for the rest of the ride.
They arrived home and Jaxon got down. He walked to Ruby’s side and opened the door for her. She smiled as he helped her down and placed his hand on her small waist as they walked past the guards into the house.
Jaxon asked Ruby to go into the room and relax while he prepared her favorite smoothie for her to calm her nerves.
Ruby felt blessed whenever she thought about how good Jaxon was being to her. She couldn’t help falling deeper in love with him with each passing day.
She felt like the luckiest girl alive and she wished that everyone had a partner like Jaxon. Her mood soured at that thought as her sister’s crying face flashed before her eyes.
She wished there was something she could do to make her feel better and ease her pain. She was worried that Kim might end up getting blinded by her pain and doing something stupid.
She sat up and leaned against the headboard with her phone in her hands. She opened the messenger app and started typing away.
Kim had just stepped out of the bathroom when she heard her phone light up with a notification. She felt hope bloom in her heart and rushed to pick up the phone from the bed. Her smile dropped when she saw that it was a text message from Ruby.
She opened the message and felt anger bubbling in her vain as she read the content.
“Hey, I know you are hurting and I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. I know it’s hard, but remember that you deserve to be loved and cared for. You are every man’s dream and if he doesn’t see that it’s his loss. Take some time off to cook down and please don’t forget to take care of yourself. ”
Did she really care or was she just pretending to care?
Kim felt pissed. She was angry at the fact that she couldn’t get Damon to want her and Now it felt like Ruby was mocking her with her care and sympathy.
Was she not beautiful enough? What did she lack? What did Ruby have that she didn’t? She couldn’t understand how Ruby got Jaxon to be her husband.
He was the most eligible man in town, a multi-billionaire at that, and yet he loved and treated Ruby like a precious stone. Why did she get the better man and she was left with nothing?
She felt Jealousy clouding her judgment, She wanted what Ruby had. She wanted Jaxon for herself and she would do anything to make it happen.
She thought she deserved better and she didn’t care about how Ruby would feel at the end. She dropped her phone on the bed and started pacing as she thought of a plan to snatch Jaxon from Ruby.
