Kim had her face pressed into her pastel pink pillow as she cried. She felt like she was suffocating as tears kept falling from her eyes.
Kim felt like the whole world was against her happiness, why couldn’t she be happy like everyone else? Why was she always left behind? She felt deserted as she cried bitterly.
She felt shattered. She felt like a lost soul as the pain of her broken heart slowly ate her up. She didn’t know what she did to deserve such treatment from Damon.
Was it so wrong for her to want something with him? Was there truly such a thing as no strings attached? She should have known better. She should have known that the strings always end up getting entangled.
She felt used.
It was as if nothing good ever came her way. Everyone always leaves and she’s tired of this roller coaster. More tears streamed down her face as she flipped over.
Kim cried harder as she thought about all the events that took place that day. She wondered why Damon did that to her. Was she not good enough for him? Was she lacking in any way?
Her chest was burning deeply and she felt like she couldn’t breathe properly. She felt like her chest was being ripped out of her chest.
Loud sobs left her lips as she stared up at the white ceiling.
She still couldn’t understand why Damon blocked her. She still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that he was more than okay to get rid of her.
She cried as she remembered all the moments they shared together. If this was what heartbreak feels like then she hopes to never go through the pain again.
She was in so much pain that she wished even her enemy would not have to pass through that again.
Kim wondered if maybe she was never meant to have anything good for long in her life. Maybe she was always meant to go through the pain of rejection.
Maybe she was not worthy of love and good things.
……
Ruby was seated beside Jaxon on the dining table as they peacefully ate their dinner while sharing small talk here and there.
“Come on Jaxon, you can take the weekend off.” Ruby pouted as she cutely blinked her eyes at Jaxon.
Jaxon dropped his spoon and sighed as he looked at her. He loved and hated it when she made this face.
He loved it because she looked so cute and hated it because he couldn’t deny her anything when she made that face.
“Jaxon, you are the boss, being absent for a few days won’t hurt you. You need to trust your staff…” her words were cut off by the sound of her phone ringing.
Kim was flashing on the screen and she smiled as she excused herself and received the phone call.
“Hello,” Ruby said softly and she was greeted by silence.
“Hello… Kim you there?” Ruby asked.
Kim didn’t know what to say, she thought calling Ruby would make her feel better but that’s not the case. She started sobbing loudly and Ruby’s smile immediately vanished.
“Kim talk to me, what’s wrong? Are you okay? Are you in pain? Did anything happen?” Ruby felt worried as Kimberly’s sobs got louder and even more heartbreaking.
Jaxon stared at her worriedly as he watched her expression change.
“Please talk to me. What happened?” Ruby softly whispered.
“I’m in so much pain.” Kim stuttered and Ruby felt her heart break by how broken Kim sounded.
“Please hang on, I’m on my way,” Ruby said and hung up the call.
Ruby turned to Jaxon with worry clear in her eyes. She didn’t feel like eating anymore as the only thing that was on her mind was her sister’s well-being.
“What’s wrong?” Jaxon asked softly.
“It’s Kim, I don’t know what happened but she is crying.” Ruby sighed.
“She’ll be fine. I’m sure she is just having one of her mood swings.” Jaxon smiled at Ruby but she wasn’t convinced by his words.
“This is different. She sounded so broken… I need to see her, I need to make sure that she is okay.” Ruby fiddled with her hands as she said this.
“You don’t need to go there, Gem. She is an adult, let her deal with some of her issues herself. She can’t keep calling you whenever she experiences a slight inconvenience.” Jaxon said dryly.
“If she doesn’t call me, who else would she call Jaxon? I’m all that she has and she needs me. Please, I need to go and make sure that she is really okay.” Ruby was getting emotional and Jaxon knew now was not the right time to talk about this.
“Finish eating then. I’ll drop you there myself.” Ruby started to feel annoyed as she stared at Jaxon.
“How can I sit and eat when my sister is in pain? I need to go.” Jaxon ran his hands through his hair and looked up at her.
“Okay. Let me drop you off.” Ruby felt relieved as he stood up and they both made their way to the garage. Jaxon opened the door for her and immediately she got in he closed it and got to the driver’s side.
He started up the car and neither of them said a word as he drove to Ophelia’s apartment. The car stopped in front of their apartment and without waiting for Jaxon to open the door like he usually does, Ruby ran out of the car.
She felt anxious as she knocked on the door and impatiently tapped her foot as she waited for the door to be opened.
Ophelia opened the door and she was shocked to see Ruby.
She smiled brightly and pulled her into a hug. “I missed you, how are you!” Ophelia exclaimed and Ruby forced a smile as she walked into the house.
She heard the bedroom door open and her heart clenched in pain as Kimberly ran to her with tears streaming down her face.
She pulled her into a hug and her whole body shook as she cried in her arms.
