“Why did you show up here?” Damon asked her. She could hear the anger in his words but still chose to ignore it.
“I wanted to see you Damon.” She told him and the frown which she thought was already quite visible deepened. Damon shook his head lightly and gave her a pointed stare.
“You really have lost your mind.” He muttered while he still shook his head.
“No, I’m perfectly sane.” She stated. She felt annoyed at the way he stared at her like she had done something completely wrong.
“I came because you’ve been avoiding me Damon. We haven’t had a proper conversation in so long and I don’t like it. So how about we skip this place and go somewhere to catch up?” She suggested with imaginary crossed fingers. She silently prayed and hoped he would agree.
“Here we go again.” He let out then gave her a disapproving look.
“Can’t you get it through your head that I’m not going anywhere with you. We aren’t even dating so you must be delusional to suggest that kind of thing.” He told her.
Just then, the elevator behind him opened. Damon quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her to a corner where they would not easily be seen.
” We are not dating and frankly, I doubt we are ever going to because I can’t stand this behavior of yours.” He said to her and she could tell he was blatantly honest.
“You’ve really crossed the line showing at my workplace like this and I can’t get over that.” He said.
“Well, I wouldn’t have come if you had talked to me properly and agreed to meet up.” She fired back angrily. Why was he blaming her when all she had done was try to talk to him?
“And I said no. Any other person would have taken the hint and left me alone but you decided to be different.” Kim glimpsed the boredom in his eyes and couldn’t help but to get angry.
“You couldn’t just take no for an answer.” He mumbled and she was too consumed in her times that she almost missed it.
“Why should I take no for an answer? You can’t just sleep with me then blow me off like nothing ever happened.” She yelled. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she took in sharp breaths.
“That’s not how things work Damon and you should know that.” She stated as she directed a glare his way.
“I don’t owe you anything so I can do whatever I want.” He told her and her eyes flashed.
Damon had really gotten on her nerves but she tried to calm down for the sake of them being out in the open.
“So you are just going to blow me off? So I was just another one of you flings?” She asked him angrily. Damon heaved a deep sigh then looked at her. There was such an intensity in his gaze that Kim found herself shrinking back from him.
“You know what, I’m done. I can’t do this anymore. I’m tired of you constantly nagging over everything.” He said and she looked at him with a dumbfounded expression.
“What do you mean we’re done?” She didn’t want to think about what he meant. He gave her a look then said,
“Don’t tell me you’re slow too?” He let out.
“Let me spell it out for you. We’re through. To hell with whatever was going on between us, I’m tired of it, and I’m tired of you already.” He explained. Kim glanced at him shocked and felt like screaming. She could tell he was serious and wasn’t joking about anything.
“So that’s it?” She asked him. Her voice has dropped to something that resembled a whimper. ”
Yes. That’s it.” He bit out the words.
“But Damon, we can’t just end it this way. Look, I know you’re angry with me so how about I come back tomorrow and we can discuss this when you are thinking properly.” She suggested desperately.
“No Kim. I’m already thinking clearly and I think it’s best we go our separate ways before you get hurt.” He told her. She shook her head in disbelief, not wanting to believe that it was over just like that.
“But Damon-” she started but he curt her off.
“You doing this affirms my decision even more. I hate clingy women and you are being just that. I’m sorry but if you are trying to find a boyfriend in me then you are wasting your time.” He stated bluntly.
Kim didn’t know when tears started to roll down her cheeks. She no longer cared if she looked desperate or not as she begged Damon. But he wouldn’t budge. He stood by his decision and wouldn’t change it for anything.
Kim has already started to lose hope. So this was the way her plan had ended, she thought grimly. She glanced into Damon’s eyes and she couldn’t find a shred of pity in them, only annoyance and boredom were plain for her to see. Her hope has upped and left her and she gave one measly attempt to try to change his mind. He simply shook his head at her in resistance.
“I’m warning you Kim, no amount of begging will change my mind so I suggest you leave. You won’t like me as much if I get really angry.” He told her. Tears were flowing down her cheeks much faster as Kim realized she couldn’t salvage the situation. All the trouble she had gone through to get him had been a waste. She mentally scolded herself on how she had fumbled him.
“Well I’m telling you to leave, I need to get back to work.” She heard what he said but at the same time, her mind was far away from her reality. He didn’t bother to wait or catch her attention. He just walked off and left her to stand alone.
A dejected Kim turned and made the shameful walk back to the company entrance. As she passed the elevator, its doors opened and her sister, Ruby and Jaxon came out of it.
Ruby squinted her eyes at the lady that was leaving, she found the figure familiar, but there was no way Kimberly would come to Jaxon’s company, right?
