Jaxon’s breath hitched as he watched Ruby slowly walk down the stairs. He felt like he couldn’t breathe as he stared at her angelic features.
It looked like she was walking in slow motion and her heels made a sweet clicking sound as she walked.
She stood before him and he felt like locking her up and never allowing her to walk out.
“You look amazing Ruby,” Jaxon said in a deep voice and Ruby felt goosebumps ruse on her skin.
She was wearing a dazzling red gown that shimmered under the light. The color contrasted beautifully with her pale skin. She had on very light makeup and her hair was packed in a sleek ponytail.
“Thank you.” Ruby smiled as she laced their hands together and walked to the awaiting car outside.
They got to the party venue and it was one of the hotels that belonged to Jaxon. Ruby was mesmerized by the decor and architectural design of the hotel as their way to the ballroom.
The bodyguards bow as they step through the grand entrance, they are greeted by a sea of rich crimson and pristine white decor, embellished with golden accents. And Ruby’s eyes widened as she sucked up the beauty.
Ruby’s hold on Jaxon’s arms tightened and her smile widened as she smelled the sweet aroma of a delectable treat that filled the air.
“If it isn’t the antisocial grandson,” Damon smirked as he walked up to the couple.
“You look so beautiful. You must be the wife of my grumpy friend here.” Jaxon glared at him and Ruby just looked between them.
“I’m Damon.” He stretched out his hands to shake Ruby and Jaxon grabbed it.
“It’s Nice to meet you. Damon” Ruby smiled politely.
“You’ve Introduced yourself, can we go now?”Jaxon rolled his eyes.
“I just met your beautiful wife, you can go alone if you want to.” Damon sassed back.
“Go flirt with someone else,” Jaxon smirked and walked away with Ruby.
Jaxon spotted his Grandfather in the middle of the room talking to an elderly couple. They walked up to them and Nana’s face lit up immediately when she spotted them.
She excused herself from the couple and met them halfway. She pulled Ruby into a hug and Jaxon felt like he had been betrayed.
“Nana, I missed you,” Ruby whispered in her ears. They pulled away from the hug and Nana gave her a small pat on the cheek.
She turned to Jaxon next and pulled him into a hug. Jaxon relaxed as they hugged. He loved holding his Nana, she felt safe and smelt like home.
He placed a soft peck on her forehead after she pulled away and she smiled sweetly at him. They didn’t need to exchange words to express how deeply they missed each other.
“Happy birthday Grandfather.” Ruby smiled sweetly as she passed a beautiful paper bag to Keith.
“Thank you, Ruby. How about you give a toast?” He smiled as he collected the bag and passed it to a waiter who took it to a table that contained several gift boxes.
“A toast?” Ruby’s brows furrowed.
“Yes, dear. I’ll be delighted if you toast to the guests. They should know my beautiful daughter in law.” He boasted as a smile played on Ruby’s face.
“I’ll be delighted.” Ruby replied.
“Good.” Kieth nodded as his gaze landed on Jaxon.
“I’m glad you came. Why don’t you take Ruby around and introduce her to some of your friends.” Jaxon nodded and intertwined his hands with Ruby’s.
He led them to a table at the front of the hall where Damon was sitting alone and drinking wine.
“Welcome back.” Damon smiled and Jaxon groaned in annoyance.
He pulled out the chair for Ruby and slowly adjusted it after she had sat down. He took a seat beside her with Damon facing the two of them.
“Who are you to welcome me to my own family’s party?” Jaxon smirked and Ruby laughed as they started to bicker like kids.
This was the first time she had seen Jaxon acting so carefree with someone who wasn’t his grandfather.
She heard a familiar laugh over the music and she couldn’t help looking back.
What she saw made her angry and uncomfortable at the same time.
June was engaged in a conversation with Keith and they looked like they were having fun.
She hugged Keith and held his arm as they talked. They were both smiling sweetly at each other as they continued their conversation and Keith looked so comfortable with her clinging into him.
It looked almost natural, like he was used to it already. They looked like father and daughter and Ruby felt a pinch of jealousy.
She tapped Jaxon and pointed at them. He looked in the direction she was pointing and after seeing the interaction he turned back to her with a questioning look.
“What is that all about? Why is she clinging on to your grandfather like that and why is he allowing her?” Ruby asked and Jaxon smiled.
“It’s not a big deal Ruby. They have known each other for a very long time and at one point Grandfather thought we would make a good match but it obviously didn’t work out cause I didn’t like her.” Ruby’s eyes widened at that piece of information and she felt her heartbeat increase.
Why did Keith think they would be a good match? Does he still feel that way? Does he prefer June to her?
She suddenly started to feel insecure. She didn’t know if Keith saw potential in her or thought she was worthy to be Jaxon’s wife. She felt sad.
“Ruby, Damon, and I would be going to interact with a few business partners. I won’t go too far, come to me if you feel uncomfortable or need something.” Ruby smiled softly and nodded. Jaxon placed a small peck on her forehead and left with Damon.
They both walked to a group of men not far from the table and started talking. She beckoned a waiter holding a tray filled with champagne and took a glass.
She was enjoying the soft music playing in the background when she heard the chair beside her being pulled. She looked up and her smile fell as she came face to face with June.
“What do you want?” Ruby asked coldly.
June smirked as she looked at her with annoyance shunning in her eyes.
“What would I possibly want from a peasant girl like yourself?” June sassed.
“Then why is Her Majesty sitting beside this peasant?” Ruby said sarcastically.
“I just want to warn you to leave before it is too late. Jaxon is mine and he will always be mine, I don’t care about what you guys have going on right now but I will take my man back!” June said sweetly.
