Chapter 72
Kimberly paced back and forth in her room conflicted on what to do. She sat on her bed and thought for a moment. Should she call Damon to meet up or was it too soon.
When she had collected his card, she had made the effort not to call him that same day even though she wanted to so badly.
She’d been euphoric that the first part of her plan had gone smoothly but she didn’t want to get ahead of herself. She didn’t want to seem desperate so she held off on calling him.
Until now.
It had only been a little over a week so she felt it was a sufficient time to carry out the next phase of her plan. Her mind flashed to her sister who had gotten all these with ease and she sneered.
Ruby had gotten herself a good looking rich man without even trying. And to top it off, he was the richest of the richest. Why didn’t she meet Jaxon before Ruby anyway?
If he had met her first she was 100% sure that he would have fallen for her.
But it doesn’t matter, she would get her own rich husband and wouldn’t need Ruby for anything ever again.
She was tired of being the beggar between them. If Ruby was such a good sister, wouldn’t she have given her things before she asked.
Kim was still sour about the credit card that was taken from her, but she consoled herself with the fact that something good had come out of it. That good thing being Damon.
She turned the his card in her hand for the zillionth time before getting over herself and pressing the digits on the card into her phone.
She hit the call button but the line rang and rang before cutting off. The smile she had on faltered but she kept her cool. Maybe he was busy, she told herself.
She waited ten anxious minutes then tried again and it was the same thing that happened. The line rang until her call went to voicemail.
Her smile dropped this time as she glared at her phone. Why wasn’t he picking up? Or could it be that she had called the wrong number by accident or perhaps he hadn’t even given her the right number at all.
She frowned as she glanced at the back of the business card where the numbers were displayed. She mentally went through each number three whole times.
She hadn’t called the wrong number and it was definitely Damon’s name on the front of the card.
She sighed out loud as she held her phone up to her face.
She recounted the numbers again to make sure she wasn’t making a mistake. And after satisfying herself, she did one thing that she hadn’t done in a long time. She prayed.
Kim wasn’t the religious type but desperate times called for desperate measures and she was bordering desperate the more the line didn’t go through.
She hit the call button once more, this time with crossed fingers to give her luck. If someone told her that doing an outrageous thing would get Damon to pick up, she’d do it.
The phone rang the first time, second time, and she was about to lose hope when the cool masculine voice she had been dying to hear came through the line.
“Hello?” Damon said and she almost squealed in pure joy.
“Who is this?” He asked, his voice sounded impatient and Kim quickly rushed to say something before he hung up on her.
“Hi Damon, this is Kimberly,” she replied in the calmest voice she could muster. The line was silent and the only indication he was still there was his shallow breathing.
” Remember me, you came to my apartment last week to collect a credit card.” She explained on the off chance that he didn’t remember.
“How could I forget?” Damon said.
“You’re still miss lonely I presume,” he added. “Very much so.” She played along.
“I’ll be honest with you Kim, I thought you wouldn’t call me again after that day. But I’m happy to be proven wrong.” He told her and she smiled. Just one meeting and she had gotten him to think about her, she thought triumphantly.
“I hope I didn’t offend you by calling after over a week?”
“How could I be angry when such a pretty girl took time out to call little old me.” Damon said in a sing-song voice.
“You flatter me Damon.”
“But it’s true!”
Kim didn’t want to waste anymore time so she told him exactly why she called.
“So… Are you available so we can meet? Remember we did talk about it last time because our time was cut short.” She said, She crossed her fingers for more luck as she waited for his response.
“I do remember. It was a shame last time but we can definitely make up for it.”
“So where do you want to meet?” She asked him.
“How about a hotel? I’ll text you the details, how does that sound?”
“It’s okay.” Just as she responded, she got a text for the name and address of the hotel.
“So see you in two hours?” He asked.
“See you then.” The call ended and Kim couldn’t be more excited. She rushed to her closet and brought out two dresses. She placed the two of them side by side but couldn’t decide.
She went to find Ophelia who was busy watching TV.
“Help me choose a dress, Ophelia, red or purple?” She rushed out.
“Where are you going?” Ophelia asked her then glanced at the two dresses.
“On a date with a friend but I’m still looking out for cute guys.” She lied through her teeth. If Ophelia thought she wasn’t telling the truth, she didn’t comment on it.
Ophelia glanced at the two dresses again then said,
“I heard date and cute guys, so go with red.”
” Great, thanks.” She glanced at the red dress in her hands and smiled. She was going to wear the dress whether Ophelia had said so or not. She had just been looking for a second opinion.
She went back to her room and started prepping herself for what was to come.
