Chapter 50
“Everything okay?” Ruby found herself asking as Jaxon walked into the house.
“Yes,” He replied, with a straight look on his face as he walked straight to the kitchen.
“Do you need anything?” Ruby grilled, walking behind him as he got to the fridge to get water.
“Yes. I need Some peace and quietness and I won’t be able to get that if you keep following me, Ruby. Do you need anything?” He grilled as Ruby shook her head.
He had planned to rest for that day, but people just kept ruining his plans. First, it was Ruby and her sister, his grandfather, now Mikhail.
“No, it’s just that..” Ruby’s voice trailed off and she bitt her lips hard.
Why was she following him?
“I’ll go upstairs now” She mouthed as she immediately turned to leave.
She had just a month and a week left with him and after that, their hundred days would be over.
She would no longer be his wife.
Jaxon did not say anything as he drank some water, watching her leave.
Blood flowed to his cock at the sight of her swaying hips. He grunted and he turned away from her, his grip on the cup hard.
…..
Immediately Ruby got to her room. She got a call, it was from Kevin.
She didn’t reply to his last text, and now he had resorted to calling her.
“Hi” her voice was low as she received the call.
“Ruby, I thought that you weren’t going to pick up, knowing that you didn’t reply to my text.” His voice peered out from the speakers, and Ruby sat on the bed.
“I was busy,” Came her curt reply.
“It’s all right. But I think you should give me a reply now, so what do you think? Let’s meet”
Ruby pursed her lips, there was no way she was going to agree to meet him.
First, Jaxon would skin her alive.
Second, He wouldn’t even allow her to leave the house.
“I’m married now, Kevin. I’m really busy these days” She tried to come up with the most reasonable excuse she could think of.
“It’s just a harmless meeting like the first one. We’re only meeting in a restaurant. That’s all”
“I’m really sorry, Kevin, but I think I’ll have to decline,” She uttered, trying to sound polite.
“Please, Ruby. Let’s just meet. This once,” Kevin was quite incessant, and from the look of things, he wasn’t going to give up just yet.
“When do you plan on meeting?” Her voice was low as she signed deeply.
“Tomorrow, or today, in the evening ” He replied eagerly.
“Today is impossible. I’ll think about tomorrow ” She breathed out.
“Thank You, Ruby”
“I’m not promising you yet. I’m still thinking about it. If I can, I’ll meet with you; if I can’t..” She paused, shrugging her shoulders.
“So don’t expect too much”
“I really hope we can. Thank you!”
“You’re welcomed” She yawned, throwing herself lazily on the bed.
“Okay then. I’ll see you tomorrow”
“Maybe,” Ruby muttered with a smile on her face, and she disconnected the call.
She’d just have to convince Jaxon one way or the other.
…..
The next morning, Ruby walked out of her room, after freshening up. She had no idea if Jaxon was going to leave for work, so she wanted to talk to him before he left.
“Good morning!” She greeted, coming downstairs. He was sitting in his usual spot with his phone and his cup of coffee.
“Good morning” He replied as their eyes met.
He was already dressed, and his perfume filled the room, which only meant one thing: he was going to leave.
“Are you going to work today?” She asked nervously, picking her nails, awaiting his response.
“As you can see.”
“I’ll be gone for two days” Came his next surprising words as Ruby stilled.
“What?” She stammered in surprise.
“I gave something very important to deal with,” He explained, as he was leaving the country. He had something to do in Russia and it came up urgently.
He was definitely not going to take Ruby along with him as she was not part of that life of his, she was just business, that’s why they married.
“Oh,” Ruby mouthed. It seemed like God was in her favor. Jaxon was going to be gone for two days. That means she could meet Kevin. That was definitely good news.
“You should take care of yourself.” She flashed a smile at him, and he nodded slowly.
“You too. I’ll send Nana to stay with you while I’m gone,” he offered, but she quickly shook him off.
“You don’t have to do that. I can take care of myself. I’ll be just fine” She managed to sound as convincing as ever.
“Don’t think I’m going to leave you all alone in this house. I have some guards coming over. They would keep you watch as well” Jaxon informed. He had stationed them to guard outside the house, not inside.
He was just doing her a favor by calling Nana so she wouldn’t be bored.
“I..” Ruby wanted to protest, but she let it slide.
If Jaxon was gone, she was pretty sure she could convince the guards to allow her to leave.
“It’s okay then. Just take care of yourself ” She smiled at him.
“And you should have told me before now. I could have packed some food for you” She pouted.
“You’re afraid of fire; I don’t want you burning up my house,” He said as a matter of fact.
There was a pressure cooker, so she could feed herself when he was gone.
“I won’t,” She grinned.
“My plane’s already waiting,” He announced, standing up on his feet.
He was taking a plane? It seemed his trip was important. Ruby thought to herself.
“Be Good, Gem,” He said, walking up to her, and he planted a brief kiss on her lips, taking her by surprise. Just when she was about to protest, he was already gone. Just like that.
Ruby managed to maintain her stance after Jaxon left as she brought out her phone to text Kevin.
‘Where do you want to meet?’
…
Why did i feel like Ruby is embarking on a suicide mission, lol.
