Chapter 49
“Gra.. ndfa.. ther?’ Ruby stuttered in disbelief as she took a look at the man in front of her.
“And who’s she?” His furrowed brows were directed at Ruby who flinched.
He held this scary and intimidating look on his face and that scared her.
He was definitely Jaxon’s grandfather because they both had the same aura just that Jaxon was scarier.
“She’s my wife” The words came out of Jaxon’s mouth bluntly.
“Meet Ruby, Ruby my grandfather. Keith” Jaxon introduced both of them to each other.
“Uh…” Ruby stammered, not knowing what to say next.
She felt so nervous being in the presence of two powerful men.
“She’s not Serena” Kieth’s eyes narrowed at Jaxon who looked away from him as Ruby’s eyes furrowed even more.
Who was Serena?
“Change of plans” Jaxon replied, glancing at Ruby again.
“I like her, nice to meet you Ruby” Kieth smiled at Ruby, stretching out his hand for a handshake.
“Nice to meet you” Ruby stammered.
“Ruby wait for me outside” Jaxon instructed and Ruby disappeared the next second.
The atmosphere was so intimidating and she needed to be out.
“What happened to your vacation?” Jaxon questioned after Ruby was gone as he leaned against the table.
“I cut it short because you made a mess. Why did you kill Rogers?” Kieth asked as Jaxon rolled his eyes.
So that was the reason his grandfather came, he knew the old man would not just call off his vacation for no reason.
“Because he tried to kill my wife” Jaxon deadpanned, his eyes darkening at the mention of the word wife.
“I thought you were done with that kind of life, son,” Kieth said in a worried tone as he took a step closer to Jaxon who sucked in a deep breath.
“I can never be done with that life. It’s a part of me.” He said softly as Kieth sighed.
“You can’t keep killing people around”
“I don’t just kill people. I kill people who dare with me. Besides Rogers deserved it” Jaxon pointed out as he stared up at the ceiling before meeting his grandfather’s eyes.
“How did you know? I asked you to stop meddling in my affairs!” Jaxon’s voice was stern. He was just that his grandfather had planted someone among his men to keep an eye on him, he was going to fish the bastard out later.
“I’m worried about you, I just want you to get married, have kids, and live a happy life. You even got a beautiful wife now”
“Fake. Our contract ends soon” Jaxon corrected, flashing a smile at Keith.
“Your life is not going to end with the bratva son. Get a life outside it” Kieth advised.
Jaxon had been working with the bratva since he was 20 and held a very high position there.
He helped them cover up all their affairs in New York. He was what they called Sovietnik, the adviser of the brotherhood.
Something no one knew about, except Kieth, Damon, and Jaxon’s men.
“I can take care of myself, Grandfather. You wanted me to get married. I’ve done that. Keep my dealings with the bratva out of this” Jaxon stated.
He only married Ruby per his grandfather’s request and it was because of the company.
“It was so hard getting you a wife. Get her Pregnant. I already like Ruby” Kieth did not hide the grin on his face.
His grandson was so thick-skinned and hard to convince.
“I intended to rest today. And I still want to do that” Jaxon drew out in a dry tone as Kieth shook his head.
“I’ll be at the house, bring Ruby over this weekend..” Those were the last words he said and he left.
“Damnit!” Jaxon cursed sucking in a deep breath, collecting the files he came for in the first place, he walked out of his office.
“What did my grandfather tell you?” He asked Ruby the moment he stepped out of his office.
“Nothing much” Ruby shrugged her shoulders as Jaxon stood in front of her.
“Then spill the little he told you” Jaxon hissed at her.
“He only told me that you were going to bring me over to the house this weekend she that he wanted to spend some time with me” She explained, wondering why Jaxon was now looking worked up.
Jaxon said nothing to her as he began to walk away.
Ruby following behind him.
They got to his car and he drove off.
On their way home, Ruby got a text. She thought it was from Ophelia or her sister but when she checked, it was from Kevin.
How are you?
I’m good.
I’ve not heard from you since that day at the hospital, how are you?
I’m good. I’ve been busy lately. How about you?
I’m good. Can we meet?
Ruby froze as she blinked repeatedly at the message. If she met with Kevin, Jaxon would crucify her. She just had to make up some excuse and tell him no.
“What are you doing staring at your phone? We’re home?” Jaxon’s voice rang in her ears as she lifted her head nervously, putting her phone away.
He was already out of the car.
“Nothing. I was talking to Kim” She flashed a smile at him and she quickly got out of the car.
“What did you want for lunch?” Jaxon suddenly asked as she paused.
Wasn’t he pissed just a while ago?
“Anything” Ruby replied shrugging her shoulders.
“Don’t tell me anything. What do you want to eat for lunch?” He demanded, his tone not too high.
“Anything that’s okay with you” Ruby replied yet again.
He was the one with many allergies, so he should pick.
“You..” Jaxon was about to say something when his phone rang.
“Go inside. I’ll join you” he instructed and Ruby shook her head slowly before going into the house.
“Mikhail?” Jaxon’s voice was low as the person on the other side of the phone grinned.
“Jaxon. I’ve got some information for you. One you need to know but I need something in return”
“What do you want?” Jaxon asked. He knew from the onset that Mikhail wanted something, that was why he called.
That was why they always called. But what information did Mikhail have that was so important?
