Chapter 29
Ruby stood in front of Ophelia as they both stared at each other.
“Aren’t you going to sit?” Ophelia asked, breaking the ice.
“That looks like it hurts” She added in a low voice as she pointed at Ruby’s wound.
“Yes.” Ruby drew out as she looked around.
“Let’s sit there” She pointed at a chair as they both went to sit there.
Ophelia on one end, Ruby at the other end.
“Hmm, hmm” Ruby cleared her throat.
“I guess I can talk to you now” She stated, sensing that Ophelia was no longer angry.
If she was, she wouldn’t have agreed to speak with her.
“I’m sorry” she apologized as she looked at Ophelia.
“I’m really sorry, girl. I never intended to hide the truth from you. It’s just that the circumstance I was in, did not allow me to do so” She explained trying to keep a calm expression on her face.
“How are you doing and how’s your sister?” Ophelia asked instead.
“I’m good, I guess..” Ruby’s voice trailed off.
“And Kim is in a vegetative state. I hope she wakes up soon” She disclosed as Ophelia shook her head slowly.
“Please ophy” Ruby began as she held her friend’s hand.
“I want you to tell me that you forgive me..” she pouted. She had missed her friend a lot. The carefree Ophelia, the life of the party.
“I really want to go back to how we were before. Look..” she paused as she placed her right hand on her chest.
“I promise never to lie to you again. I’ll tell you everything. Just talk to me freely..” She pleaded as Ophy kept her gaze on her for a long time.
“Congratulations on your marriage!!!” She blurted out in excitement as she suddenly hugged Ruby.
“I’ve really missed you girl” She confessed. The past few days had been really boring for her.
“I missed talking to you and everything. Don’t you ever lie to me again or I’ll break off your head” she threatened as she playfully hit Ruby on her back.
“Trust me, I’ll cut your head off” she added as they both laughed heartily.
“I won’t” Ruby promised as they broke off from the hug.
“So how’s your new house? I guess you’re living in a mansion now. With maids at your beck and call?” Ophelia asked gingerly. She couldn’t wait for Ruby to fill her in with the newest gist.
“Well…” Ruby drew out as she began.
“I live in a big house, but there are no maids. You see Jaxon hates crowds and likes to keep it low, you know..” she shrugged her shoulders and Ophelia totally understood.
“I went to your place the other day and it was locked. I couldn’t get in either” Ophelia informed, that was when she knew that Ruby had moved out as there was no one om the house.
“Yeah, I moved out already. Apparently, I was attacked” She announced as Ophelia’s eyes widened.
“Attacked?” She asked in surprise.
“Yes, But Jaxon is trying to find out who, so..” her voice trailed off.
“I know this must be very hard for you” Ophelia sucked her teeth as she shook her head.
“I saw the hate comments and I felt so bad for you. Look at the mean words. Eww,” She scrunched her face.
Seeing the comments, she knew her friend was going through a lot and she needed to be there for her.
But then, every news about Ruby was deleted from the Media, it was like it never came up.
“I hope you didn’t allow that get to you?” she asked in concern and Ruby shook her head.
“A little” She hummed softly.
“Right now, you’re the most lucky girl in the whole of this city. Every girl badly wants to get in your shoes. So they’re all jealous that you got what they will never be able to get. You’re so lucky Ruby. You got married to the best man ever!!” Ophelia stated as Ruby forced out a smile.
That was a huge lie. She was lucky with her foot!!
Jaxon was temperamental, uncaring, rude, cold, arrogant. He had all the bad qualities in him.
She was not expecting affection as whatever they had between them was just business, but even at that, he still needed to be nice.
“I’m so happy for you!!” Ophelia beamed happily.
“He’s so handsome. Geez. How did you even get to meet him?” Ophelia asked curiously.
“When I was working in the restaurant” Ruby replied, trying to keep a straight face.
“And?”
“We met in the restaurant. I had no idea, he was a billionaire then. We just started talking and from there.. our relationship bloomed” Ruby explained as she bit her lips hard.
She had just promised not to lie again, but here she was lying to her friend.
“We got married secretly as I wanted to live my normal life. But I guess fate had other plans” Ruby chuckled sheepishly.
“But then you decided never to tell your best friend” Ophelia frowned.
“And I’m truly sorry for that, I wanted to tell you. I was just waiting for the perfect time to do that”
“I understand ” Ophelia muttered as she patted her shoulders.
“It must have been very hard for you,” She said in a low voice.
“Yeah. Thanks so much, Ophelia. I’ll call you later, but now I have to leave. Jaxon’s waiting for me” Ruby frowned. She would only be bringing trouble to herself if she kept him waiting.
“Oh, that’s true. You can’t keep your prince charming waiting ” Ophelia giggled and she held Ruby stand up from the chair.
“Don’t forget to call me okay” Ophelia deadpanned as she helped Ruby to where Jaxon was.
“Thanks..” She whispered to Ophelia as they got to where Jaxon’s car was.
“That’s a fucking Bugatti Chiron!!” Ophelia stated her eyes wide as Ruby giggled.
“Bye, see you soon” She waved at Ophelia who helped her to get into the front seat.
“Bye babes” She blew a kiss at her.
“And bye Mr Jaxon ” She waved happily at Jaxon who suddenly stared with a firm look on his face.
“Bye,” He said, looking away.
Ophelia stepped away from the car as she watched their car drive away.
Not only was her friend married to a big shot! She finally got to speak with Jaxon Vaughn and he replied to her. Ophelia was more than happy for her friend, Ruby.
