Chapter 28
Ruby had a perplexed look on her face as she watched Jaxon walk into the room.
He came straight to her ass he placed his hand on her forehead.
“How are you doing?” He asked, as his eyes studied her.
He was so pissed an hour ago, but then her living without any protection didn’t sit well with him and when he checked her location, it said she was at the hospital.
“I’m fine” Ruby responded with a weird look on her face.
She didn’t ponder much on his sudden appearance, she already knew that he could track her location whenever he wanted to.
“Thank God. You got me worried” His voice was low as he suddenly leaned over and planted a kiss on her forehead, leaving Ruby in a daze.
“You can leave now” He turned to Kevin, with a stoic look on his face.
Kevin stood up from the chair as he stared at Jaxon coldly.
Ruby who could feel the tension between the two men, spoke up.
“Thanks for your help, Kevin. But you can leave now. I really appreciate your help” She smiled at him.
Kevin sucked in a deep breath as he decided to leave, all because of Ruby.
“Take care of yourself” He waved and left the hospital room.
Immediately Kevin was fine, Jaxon turned to her with a stern look on his face.
“Where did you run off to that you fi injured and why were you with him?” He demanded in an angry voice.
Ruby knew he was about to lash out at her again.
“He saved me. Don’t yell at me” She brought down the tone of her voice as she looked away from Jaxon.
“Saved you from what exactly?” He scoffed, but Ruby did not reply as she simply kept her gaze away from him.
“Answer me when I’m talking to you woman!!!” he grabbed her hand as he turned her to face him.
“I almost got hit by a car okay. And he saved me” She breathed out. She was not sure if she would be able to keep up with his toxicity.
It was not as if she had done anything to him.
“And I think it’s all of your fault” She added.
“Every since the news of our marriage got published, I’ve been getting death threats. Because I’m sure who wanted to hit me today, wanted to do it intentionally ” she pointed out. She was so sure she looked well before crossing.
Jaxon’s jaw worked. That was exactly what he was trying to find out.
The men that tried to attack her had refused to confess and he couldn’t find anything on them that could point at the person that sent them. Now he finally got a lead.
“When did the accident happen?” He asked, bringing out his phone from his pocket.
“It was after I left your office,” Ruby replied.
“Hey Damon” he began as he creased his brows, talking to Damon over the phone.
“There’s something you need to do for me..” he began.
If she just left his office, the accident happened around his company, so there was a chance of getting a glimpse of the car as he had CCTV cameras planted everywhere, so he could actually get the footage of when the accident happened and with that, he would be able to trace the car.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Damon, I need to you find me some footage,” he began, his tone grave.
“There was an accident near my office”
He went on to explain about Ruby, the accident, and the details about the time she left.
“Check the footage for me” he instructed, his voice low and serious.
“I need to find the bastard who’s playing games with me” He gritted his teeth angrily.
“On it man!” Damon responded and the call was disconnected.
“And you!” He turned abruptly to face Ruby, who shook in fear.
“I don’t want to ever see you around that friend of yours. End the friendship!!” He stayed, his voice firm.
“And why should I do that?” Ruby frowned.
“I don’t choose your friends for you, so you won’t choose mine either” She muttered in annoyance.
“We’ll both know why you shouldn’t do that when I see you with him again” He deadpanned, sliding his phone into his pocket.
“Stand up, we’re leaving” he announced.
Ruby did not say anything else afterward as she reached out for her purse.
She slowly climbed off the bed as Jaxon just watched her.
“My legs still hurt a lot. Call a nurse to assist me” she demanded but instead of calling a nurse, Jaxon brought out his hand for her.
She took his hand as she walked up to him, holding him by his shoulders as they left the room.
“Kevin already paid my bills” She informed in case he was planning to do so.
“His money has been refunded and I’ve settled everything” He retorted.
Ruby clenched her jaw as she swallowed her words.
Was there any need for him to do any of that?
“Ophelia?” Ruby suddenly called out as she stopped moving.
Right in front of her, was her best friend. What was she doing in the hospital?
“Ruby?” Ophelia called in surprise. As her eyes widened at the sight of her injured leg.
“Ophelia please don’t leave. Let’s talk” she pleaded in a low voice as she turned to look at Jaxon, who held an annoyed look on his face as usual.
“Please give me a moment” she begged with pleading eyes.
She knew he’d definitely agree as he wanted to keep that sweet couple’s profile in front of everyone.
“Please Jaxon” she pleaded. No doubt, he was going to rant at her later, but she didn’t care. She just wanted to speak with Ophelia and make amends now she had the chance to.
“Make it snappy” He whispered coldly to her ears, letting go of her.
“Thanks” she smiled in gratitude.
Jaxon began to walk away to give them space, but he paused in front of Ophelia as he stared at her with a piercing gaze before leaving.
