Chapter 30
Ruby and Jaxon both arrived at the house and to her surprise, he didn’t say anything to her. Neither did he yell at her.
She breathed a sigh of relief as she watched him disappear to his room, while he acted as if she was non-existent.
Ruby didn’t say anything too and just walked back to her room.
On getting to her room, she wanted to shower but she realized that she had no clothes. Jaxon had talked about getting her some, but he was yet to get it for her as he also instructed that she bring nothing from her old house.
Looking at the cast on her leg, she sucked in a deep breath as she made her way out of her room to go meet him. She had no choice but to ask him about what she would be wearing.
She was heading to his room when she spotted him downstairs. He was sitting in the dining room with a laptop in front of him.
She began to go meet him there.
Ruby appeared from behind him as she took a sneak peek at his laptop. She squinted her eyes at the sight of Vanessa on the screen.
What was Vanessa’s picture doing there? She couldn’t help but ask herself.
“What are you doing?” Jaxon suddenly asked in a low emotionless voice without lifting his head from his laptop.
“Umm..” Ruby began as she cleared her throat.
“It’s nothing” she chuckled nervously.
“It’s just that I was quite shocked fi see her picture on your laptop..” she finally confessed as Jaxon lifted his head for the first time.
“You know her?” His brows creased as Ruby nodded her head.
“I’ve met with her a few times” she replied.
“So you’re friends with her?” He raised a brow at her as she quickly shook her head.
“Friends no, Enemies yes” She pointed out.
“She humiliated me at the restaurant where I worked and you must have met her the day at the mall when you brought me here” She added as Jaxon nodded his head slowly.
“That explains it all” he sighed. He had dealt with her that day when she pushed Ruby down. He ended all the investments he had with her father’s company and all the other companies followed suit as well.
Her father automatically became an outcast in the business world.
Who would have thought that they would succumb to trying something stupid?
They were trying to assassinate Ruby.
“She tried to kill you” He informed, his eyes focused on his laptop as Ruby blinked her eyes repeatedly.
“What?” She squealed in surprise.
“You’re not deaf!” He snapped at her cold as Ruby took a step away from him.
“You’re safe now the culprit has been found, but that does not mean you’ll leave this house as you wish” A click was heard as his eyes met Ruby.
He was going to take care of Vanessa and Her father in his own way. He would make sure nothing would be heard of them again.
“I.. I…” Ruby stuttered, feeling utterly speechless. She didn’t even know what to say. But nevertheless, she was glad Jaxon found out who the killer was.
“Why are you here?” Jaxon questioned curiously as she looked away from him, her eyes on the ground.
“Don’t tell me you came here for nothing. You’re injured, you should at least stop moving about!” He stated as Ruby looked up slowly.
“I don’t have any clothes to wear!” She blurted out as Jaxon stroked his jaw.
He forgot about that, he had planned to send over some clothes, but her accident distracted him.
“I’ll get you some tomorrow ” he informed.
“What about now? This one is dirty” She said, as she took a look at herself, she had fallen on the ground, so it had some stains.
And above all, the clothes were his.
“Go to my closet and get something to wear from there” He informed, his voice low and calculative. His eyes fixed on her the whole time.
“What!” She exclaimed in shock.
“Are you trying to be dumb or you’re just dumb?” Jaxon scoffed as his gaze gardened.
“Don’t make me repeat my words” he warned.
“And you can as well, go to bed like that” He added, turning back to his laptop.
Ruby swallowed deep, she definitely heard what he said. He asked her to go to his closet and get something to wear.
“Thank you” she appreciated but she did not get a reply.
She smiled as she was already used to that. She was about to head back upstairs when her stomach grumbled. She was starving.
“Um, Jaxon..” she called, turning back to face him again.
He raised his hand, gesturing for her to speak.
“Can I get something to eat??” She asked, staring at his broad shoulders.
Now she knew why he had many women obsessing over him.
The man was Just so HOT and TEMPTING his physique and build could leave any woman drooling.
If not for the self control and dislike she held towards him, Ruby was sure that she would have pounced on him a long time ago so he could fuck her brainless. But no.
“You know where the kitchen is” He said slowly and that answered her question.
She should go make herself something.
“What about you are you hungry?” She asked again but quickly left when she heard a low growl from him.
Ruby headed to Jaxon’s room first as she collected a shirt and a shorts, before going back to her room where she had a quick shower.
When she was done, she came back downstairs. Jaxon was still there, in the same spot she had left him.
“Do want some tea?” She asked on getting to the kitchen.
“Are you trying to be my nanny?” He creased his brows at her.
“Sorry” Ruby apologized, maybe she was prying too much.
She looked around the kitchen and then decided to make potatoes with bacon toppings.
Luckily for her, she found the ingredients she needed to make it. Jaxon literally had everything in his house, even the things Nana mentioned he was allergic to and hated.
She scoffed in disbelief, who put peanuts in his house when he was allergic to them?
Jaxon did.
She looked over the gas stove and her heart literally skipped a beat.
The fire was basically her sworn enemy. Ruby hated it. She mostly cooked with an electric cooker. She hardly lit the gas stove.
She looked around the kitchen and there was no sight of an electric cooker. Ruby guessed she had to use the gas stove then.
Taking in a deep breath, she glanced at Jaxon, who was so invested in his work.
With shaky hands, she turned on the fire, so she could boil some water.
Everything was going on so fine until the water on the kettle began to boil and water began to drop on the gas stove.
In an instant, the situation went from calm to chaos. The water droplets hit the flames, causing a violent hiss and sputter. She recoiled instinctively, her hands flying up to shield my face as the flames began to come up, threatening to engulf her.
She began to hyperventilate, as she began to breathe rapidly, and her legs remained rooted to the ground.
She couldn’t move an inch as she was suddenly reminded of the most traumatic past ever. Her parent’s death.
She was still standing there when Jaxon grabbed her shoulder from behind as he quickly turned off the gas.
“I see you’ve totally lost it, Ruby!!!” He yelled at her. His voice was thick with venom as he looked at her with nothing but disgust in his eyes.
