Chapter 26
A car stopped in front of Paragon Group as Ruby stepped out of the car.
“Is this the place?” She asked the driver.
“Yes ma” he replied.
Ruby watched as the driver drove off, before turning back to face the big company that supposedly belonged to her husband.
She really didn’t want to come, but Nana made sure to force her and there was no way she could resist her.
She held the lunch box tighter as she walked into the company.
Ruby found herself taken aback by the elegance of the reception area. The walls were adorned with tasteful art pieces, the furniture sleek and modern.
Everything exuded an air of sophistication and refinement that Ruby couldn’t help but admire.
She slowly took in the space, noting the elegant marble flooring, the floor-to-ceiling windows that let in the natural light.
The whole place was like something out of a magazine, a testament to the power and prestige of the company.
There were not much people around and she didn’t even know where to go. SI she decided to ask the receptionist for directions.
“Hi” She waved at the receptionist her voice low, as the female receptionist on duty lifted her gaze to look at her.
“Hello and how can I help you?” She questioned, as she stared closely at ruby trying to remember her face.
Ruby could feel the stares of people on her and it made her feel someone.
She didn’t know if it was because of what she was wearing or because maybe they recognized her Jaxon’s wife.
She was wearing his clothes, his shirt and sweatpants.
It was all Nana’s doing.
“Please where can I find Jaxon’s office?” She asked, as the receptionist looked at her yet again and she was finally sure of where she knew her from.
“Welcome, Mrs Vaughn.” The receptionist uttered, the stren look on her face was suddenly replaced with a smile.
She expected the CEO’s wife to be a classy lady but the one before her appeared simple.
“You can find..”
“Ruby?” A voice called behind her as ruby turned to see an Unfamiliar face.
“Welcome sir” The receptionist said from behind.
“Ruby right?” The man asked with a smile on his face as Ruby nodded, trying to recollect of she knew him from anywhere.
“You must be here to see Jaxon..” he stated, his eyes travelling to the lunch box that she was holding.
“You brought him lunch!” He exclaimed as ruby smiled sheepishly at him.
“Perfect timing! We’re just about to go on a lunch break. Come on, I’ll take you to him” he offered.
“Sure thanks” Ruby muttered as he led her away.
“You must be wondering who I am, I’m Damon..” he introduced himself.
“Nice to meet you Damon” she smiled as they both entered the elevator together.
“You too. It’s an honour to finally meet you. You look more pretty in person..” he confessed as ruby smiled nervously.
“Thanks” she uttered, as she stood at the other side of the elevator, maintaining a distant from him.
They soon got out if the elevator and Damon showed her Jaxon’s office.
“He’s in there” He pointed at the door.
“Thanks” Ruby appreciated wholeheartedly.
“You’re welcome. Have fun!” He winked mischievously at Ruby as she gave him a weird look.
After he was gone, she knocked slowly on the door.
“Come in” A deep baritone voice responded from inside.
Ruby took in deep breaths as she opened the door and slowly walked in.
Jaxon was there in his office, seated on a chair, as he typed away on his computer.
He did not notice my presence yet.
“What do you want?” He asked, not lifting his head from his computer.
“Umm…hmm…hmm.”Ruby cleared her throat.
“What do you want!!?” He hissed in anger. He did not even recognize her voice, he must have thought that she was just some regular employee.
“I brought your lunch” Ruby said out loud and his fingers that were typing in his keyboard stilled.
“Why are you here?” He asked angrily as ruby swallowed deep.
“I brought you lunch” she repeated and she heard him growl.
“And who asked you to do that??” He yelled, hitting his hand on the table as Ruby stepped backwards.
“I.. I…” she began to stammer.
“You what!!!” He snapped, his eyes blazing with anger.
“Didn’t I warn you not to come out from that house!!!! And what are you wearing???” His voice thundered in the whole room as Ruby trembled in fear.
She had ever seen him that angry. He was always pissed and rude but this was just the height.
“Nana forced me to come here!” She yelled back at him.
“What?”
“She asked me to come here, saying you didn’t have lunch. Trust me, I never wanted to come” She confessed as Jaxon scoffed.
“I’m so sorry if I angered you by coming here. But trust me, it was not my intention to come here, or even make you lunch” she confessed. She cared less of he ate. That was none of her business.
“I only came here because I have a heart..” she added as she stepped forward and dropped the lunch box on the table.
“Here’s your lunch. And I’m leaving..” she informed and was about to leave when his voice thundered.
“Stop right there!”
Ruby abruptly turned.
“Do you need anything else?” She asked with a shaky voice, feeling his hard gaze on her.
He suddenly rose from the chair as he walked up to her.
“I can see you’re being so desperate!” He scoffed as her eyes flew open.
“Desperate!!” She blurted out in surprise.
“Yes, desperate..” His voice was low and husky as he suddenly grabbed her by the waist.
“Wh…at, wh…. at?” She stammered in confusion and she tried to get out of his hold, but he was holding her so tight.
“You’re desperate to have sex with me right?” His curious eyes bored into hers that were wide as saucers.
“What?” Ruby shuddered as she stilled.
Was Jaxon drunk? What had suddenly come into him? And what the hell was he saying? Desperate????
