Chapter 25
Ruby just stood in confusion, not even knowing what to do next, in the big and empty house.
He didn’t even tell her who Nana was and just left.
She decided to stay in the sitting room and waited for the so-called Nana.
Ruby sat on one of the chairs as she waited patiently for Nana to knock on the door when she was getting tired of waiting, she decided to go through the phone that Jaxon had bought for her.
She dialed Ophelia’s number and as usual, she didn’t pick up. So Ruby just sent a text as always.
She decided to check the trending news, to see if there was anything about her. But to her surprise, there was nothing.
It was like everything was deleted, her mind reeled and the only person she could point it out to was Jaxon. It was probably his doing.
Her eyes were still glued to the phone when she suddenly heard a warm and cheerful voice fill the space.
“Welcome home!” it said. Ruby’s head jerked up in surprise, and she looked around, wondering who was speaking to her. But she was alone.
Her eyes landed on the smart speaker on the coffee table, and she realized it was a virtual assistant, she stood up from the chairs when the main doors opened.
She snapped her Head towards the direction of the door, only to see an elderly woman walk in.
Was she Nana?
“Hi,” Ruby waved in a low voice as she took a cautious step towards the woman who already had a hair full of grey hairs.
“Hello dear. How are you feeling now?” She asked with a kind smile on her face.
“I’m good” Ruby replied softly.
“I’m Nana, I guessed your husband must have told you about me” She introduced herself as Ruby mouthed an oh.
“I’m Ruby”
“Nice to meet you dear” she patted Ruby’s cheeks gently.
“I feel so happy to finally meet Jaxon’s wife. I can’t believe he’s married already, how time flies” Nana chuckled as she shook her head.
“Jaxon called me earlier and asked me to come over because you were having a fever. I hope you’re doing much better now?” She asked in concern as it dawned on Ruby that she was the one who had bathed and dressed her up.
“Yes I’m fine and thank you for earlier” she appreciated.
“You’re welcome dear” Nana smiled as she walked into the house.
“I learned from your husband that you just started living here?” She questioned as Ruby nodded slowly.
The word husband sounded really strange in her ears.
“Yes,” Ruby confirmed.
“That’s very nice. At least he now has a companion and won’t be so invested in work” Nana beamed as Ruby forced a smile at her.
“You see, I’ve raised him since he was a child and I’m so happy that he finally got married. I thought he wouldn’t” Nana couldn’t help but voice out her joy.
And she seemed to like Ruby a lot already.
“Since he was a child?”
“Yes. I’ve been his Nanny. He lost his parents when he was still very little. His mother died during childbirth and his father suffered from a stroke” Nana breathed her voice low.
The poor kid never experienced the love of a mother and she had tried her best over to years to give him that, though he never wanted to open up to anybody not even his grandfather.
“Oh my gosh, that’s sad” Ruby uttered sadly.
“Yeah. Jaxon likes to be alone all the time. He prefers to live here alone, though his grandfather has tried to convince him to move, but he refuses” Nana informed.
Jaxon had refused to have any maids, butler. She was the only one allowed to come, and that was to make his meals from time to time and clean up.
The other person was his driver and he didn’t live in the main building.
“His grandfather?” Ruby’s face kit up in surprise.
“Yes. I know the old master would be so delighted to meet you, he’s out of town for now. But I’ll definitely let him know that you’re a sweet girl”
“Thanks” Ruby muttered.
“You’re welcome love”
“I think you should note this down…” Nana began.
“Jaxon hates seafood, he’s allergic to peanuts, he likes his coffee plain, and loves tea a lot. So make sure you make him that every morning before he leaves from work.
And don’t forget to add Chamomile to his tea. He suffers from insomnia and that helps him to relax, make sure you give him that in the evening as well before he goes to bed and please persuade your husband to get more sleep, I know he can be stubborn, but you’re his wife and I know he’ll listen to you” she laughed as Ruby stared at her speechlessly.
All these rules are just for one person. She wondered how Nana must have been keeping up with him.
“And also, Jaxon hates, fish, soy, and corn” she added.
“If he hates this, what does he like exactly?” Ruby couldn’t help but ask. It seemed he hated everything in the world, including her.
“Any other food from the ones I mentioned and make sure it doesn’t contain any of it. Especially the peanuts!” Nana warned sternly.
“And his best meal is mashed potatoes and beef stew” she informed as Ruby noted everything down.
“Okay, Nana. Thanks for telling me all this”
“You’re welcome, dear..” Nana smiled warmly at her.
“I’ll show you around the house and tell you everything you need to know around here and also I’m going to help you make him a meal so you can take to him to the office” Nana suddenly said as Ruby looked at her in surprise.
“What??” She shrieked.
“I know Jaxon didn’t eat anything before leaving today, did he?” Nana asked as Ruby shook her head.
“Good. Now you’re going to make him something and bring it to his office ”
“But..” Ruby began, knowing that was a very bad idea.
Jaxon could kill her, he warned her not to leave the house, but there was no way she could tell Nana that.
“No buts, the driver is around. So he’ll take you there” she said as Ruby kept shaking her head repeatedly.
“I don’t think I can..”
“Of course you can. Now come on, I’ll show you around. You still have a lot of things to learn” She held Ruby’s hand as she dragged her away not giving her a chance to explain herself.
