CHAPTER 24
Ruby woke up the next morning, feeling a slight headache.
She groaned as her eyes fluttered open, everything that happened last night coming back to her.
She was attacked but Jaxon came to her rescue and brought her back to his place.
She remembered having a fever and then he tended to her wounds and also to her.
Ruby’s brows furrowed in confusion as that was too true to believe. She actually felt that was a dream because it was so unusual for Jaxon to care for someone, especially not her.
She slowly sat up from the bed and she noticed that her legs were covered in bandages. She felt a lot more better and safe than last night.
Then she noticed something usual, her whole body was clean and she was wearing a completely different set of clothes. Make clothes to be precise.
“Oh my Goodness!” She gasped, as she examined herself. She cracked her head trying to remember the time when Jaxon was undressing her, but there was no memory of that, she did not remember him undressing her or even taking her to the bathroom to bathe.
She slowly got out of the bed as she looked around the huge room that was twice the size of her whole house.
“My phone” she muttered, trying to search for her phone.
She began to doubt if Jaxon had brought it, she must have left it in the wardrobe.
Her eyes darted to a table clock and she realized it was already past ten in the morning. She must have slept for long.
On reaching the door, she slowly opened it as she carefully stepped out, not making any noise.
“Oh my goodness!” She exclaimed in surprise as her eyes met the elegance of Jaxon’s house.
She stood by the corridor as she admired the antique of the place.
She walked over the stairs and headed straight downstairs.
She was still walking around the sitting room when her eyes traveled to the kitchen.
Jaxon was sitting in the dining room with a cup of coffee in front of him.
“Hi..” She waved as she approached him.
Jaxon slowly lifted his gaze as he looked at her briefly before looking away.
Ruby inhaled sharply, he was not going to reply to her.
“Good morning..” she greeted and he only nodded his head.
For some reason, he looked handsome that morning. Ruby silently admired him, maybe it was because he had his hair down on his forehead, as it was usually styled.
“um, thanks for last night” She appreciated her voice low, and he still nodded at her, taking slow slips from his coffee.
“Did you..” She was about to ask a question when she was suddenly interrupted by a phone call.
The phone was ringing from the sitting room.
It was his.
“I’ll get it” she giggled before he could stand up and she ran over to the sitting room to get him his phone.
“Here” she handed the phone over to him as he collected it from her.
“Hello,” Jaxon’s deep voice echoed in the whole house.
The person on the line, spoke for a long time before Jaxon instructed.
“Don’t do anything. I’ll come there myself and let me know if you find anything else” With that he ended the call and dropped the phone on the table.
“Did you by any chance…um…Did you undress me?” She asked slowly as she fidgeted.
Jaxon suddenly stared at her, taking her aback.
“What makes you think I’ll undress you?” He questioned, his voice cold.
“It’s just that I don’t remember having my bath and you brought me here, so..”
“No, I didn’t” he snapped.
“And I’ll not even think of touching you again, not to talk of undressing you” he rolled his eyes returning to his coffee as Ruby was flabbergasted by his rude behavior.
She was just trying to be nice!
“then who did?” She couldn’t help but ask.
“My maid did” He replied as Ruby’s cries furrowed. He had a maid? Where? She thought.
“And what’s there to be so worked up about? It’s not as if you have anything to hide” he voiced out, finishing the last drop of his coffee.
“Can I go to my house?” Ruby asked, as there were a few things she wanted to get, like her phone.
“To get killed for real this time right?”
“No, to get my phone and a few of my belongings” she informed.
“Here’s your phone” He brought out a phone from his pocket as he suddenly threw it at her.
Ruby quickly caught it as she looked at him in surprise, why did he have to throw her phone at her like that without warning? What if it fell on the ground and shattered?
“This is not my phone” Ruby muttered with furrowed brows as she studied the phone she was holding.
“Yes. I changed it” he confirmed in a nonchalant tone.
“I don’t get you! What gave you the right to do that?” Ruby asked angrily.
“I do whatever I want to do Ruby,” She said as he looked at her.
“And as my wife who’s living under the same roof with me. You don’t expect me to allow you to use a cheap phone, do you? Everything from your old phone was transferred to the new one” he informed and that lessened her anger a bit.
He had gotten her the latest version of the Apple series.
“You now live In my house Ruby and as long as this contract lasts, you abide by my own rules. You don’t leave here unless I ask you to..” he kept his voice stern as Ruby just stared at him in disbelief.
“And there’s no need to go to your house anymore. I won’t allow you to bring in things of low value here!”
“I don’t get you. It’s my belongings. You don’t get to decide if I should bring them or not or if they are of low value ” Ruby defended as the way he kept speaking to her irked her a lot.
Who did he even think he was?
“Just this cup, worths your whole house and everything in it Inclusive..” he pointed at his tea cup.
Ruby clenched her fists, he was embarrassing her.
” I’ll get you a whole new set of clothes..” he added and Ruby wanted to scream at him that she didn’t need that, but her anger wouldn’t let her.
So she just stood on the spot, enduring his harsh words.
“I guess we’re done here” He rose to his feet as he picked his phone up from the table.
“Feel at home, nana would be here soon. They’ll tell you everything you need to know” he added as he began to walk towards the door.
“Nana?” Ruby muttered but just when she lifted her head, Jaxon was out of the house already.
