Chapter 20
Jaxon took Ruby to his car. There was no driver this time, so he drove himself.
The ride was quiet as no one spoke to the other.
Ruby’s ankle hurting her, a lot.
She had no idea where he was taking her, but she said nothing either.
Soon, they arrived in a Villa. Ruby immediately guessed that it was his place.
She couldn’t help but admire the beauty of the place, it was huge and beautiful.
Jaxon drove into the compound and stopped the car in front of a building.
He stepped out of the car, Ruby doing the same.
“Why did you bring me here?” Ruby asked in a cold voice.
“So we can talk” He replied, his voice low
He had not been in town for days now and literally came back when he heard what was going on.
Damon had shown the leaked photos, which he had no idea how it came out.
“Talk about what exactly?” Ruby hissed.
“What do you want to talk about? Do you want to talk about how you’ve ruined my life completely?” She yelled in anger as she glared at him.
“Come inside” he sighed running his hand through his hair. He looked tired, he was exhausted.
“Damn you” Ruby scoffed inwardly, as he wanted to help her in, but she stopped him.
“Don’t touch me!” She snapped. Jaxon completely ignored her as he began to walk into his house, Ruby limping behind him, due to the fact that she twisted her ankle when Vanessa pushed her.
“What do you have to say Jaxon?” She asked after they got into his sitting room.
“Things were not meant to turn out like this” he began.
“Everything was supposed to be a secret but..” he was suddenly interrupted by a slap from Ruby who couldn’t hold back any more.
“But what?” She yelled at Jaxon, whose eyes widened as he tried to process what happened. Did he just get slapped by a woman?
“You just proved to me that you’re the biggest coward ever!!” She hissed.
“You made me marry you but you told me nothing about yourself. Then one day I wake up to see myself all over the news. Getting hate comments and even being bullied. But what did you do?? You completely ghosted me, when you’re the jerk who put me in this situation in the first place!” She accused at the top of her voice.
“What did you just do?” Jaxon hissed with narrowed brows.
“I slapped you! And I feel like slapping you again!” Ruby replied in a stern voice.
“You married me but you left me to suffer this mess alone. I’ve lost everything Jaxon. My best friend, my job, I can’t even come out in peace and it’s all because of you!!” She deadpanned pointing her fingers at him angrily.
“Ruby..”
“Don’t you dare call my name!”
“if you call my name, I’ll..”
“You’ll what!!” Jaxon snapped as he grabbed her hand that was pointing at him.
“You’ll do what exactly?” He questioned curiously.
“Hit me again?” He asked, his voice laced with mockery.
“And to think I’m going to allow you to do that? Don’t think because I let you off the first time, I’m going to let you off again. Don’t test my patience, Ruby!” He drew out word by word, each sentence sending chills down Ruby’s spine.
“Now sit your damn ass down!” He hissed, pushing her aside as he made her sit on the couch.
Ruby was in awe, did he just yell at her? How dare he try to be angry when she was the one that was supposed to be angry? He had no right whatsoever to do that? She thought to herself.
But she didn’t dare utter another word, they were alone in the house, and she still hadn’t forgotten what he did to her in the car.
“Like I said..” Jaxon began, taking his seat as well.
“Things just happened. And our pictures together were leaked. I’m still looking into it and I’ll find the bastard who did it!” He swore to himself.
He did not find it necessary to tell Ruby that he was out of town, that’s why he couldn’t come to her. She did not deserve his explanation.
“I don’t care about that” She confessed.
“What I care about now, is how I’ll live from now on. I’ve lost my job, my best friend is angry at me and..”
“I thought I asked you to quit your job?” He chimed in as Ruby paused.
“i.. I..” she began to stammer.
“Settke whatever shit you have with your friend. But for now, you’re going to be staying here” He announced as Ruby froze.
“St.. ay he.. re?” She stammered.
“Yes,” Jaxon confirmed.
“No, I won’t. Thank you” She politely refused, the last thing she would do was stay in the same house as him.
“I don’t want to live with you either. I’m only protecting you” he pointed out.
“Protecting me from what exactly?”
“You already failed to do that, don’t think I’ll live with you because you acted like my knight in shining armor back at the grocery store. You’re still a coward!” She retorted.
“Don’t test my patience Ruby ” Jaxon warned in a low and dangerous voice.
“Don’t test me” he repeated.
“I’ll not live here”
“I have my place. And I can protect myself from you die-hard fan” she said confidently.
“Suit yourself!” Jaxon replied as he was in no mood to argue with her.
“You should have picked up your call!” She abruptly said as that was the other thing that irked her the most.
“There was no harm in picking up just a phone call!”
“About that” Jaxon mumbled as he sighed.
He didn’t bring his phone along on his trip. He had two phones, one was for business and the other was for his personal use.
He had Ruby’s contact and the phone used for business as she was nothing more than a business deal. That’s why he never got to pick up her call.
“Give me your number” He gave her his other phone as Ruby stared hard at him.
She rolled her eyes collecting the phone from him.
She gave the phone back to him after imputing her number.
“Call me if you need anything” he informed as Ruby rose up from the chair.
“I’ll be leaving now,” She said to him as he nodded slowly.
“My driver will drop you off”
“Okay,” Ruby replied, looking around the room. She was not done yet.
“I need another thing from you” she began sheepishly.
“Which is?” He raised his brows at her.
“I have nothing at home, Nothing to eat or drink, and the things I got from the store were destroyed”
“My kitchen is that way. You’ll find the store room there” He pointed at the left side of his kitchen.
“Thank you” Ruby flashed a smile at him and walked towards his kitchen.
