Chapter 19
It’s been two days now, but Ruby and remained indoors as she didn’t even have the mind to step out of her place.
Out of fear, anxiety, and discomfort.
She felt out of place already and did not want to hear any more negative comments about her.
“Oh no,” Ruby grumbled in a low voice as she squeezed her eyes shut sucking in a deep breath. She was out of foodstuffs.
She walked over to her fridge and it was completely empty as well. There was just a bottle of water inside.
“Can my day get any worse!?” She asked herself as she bit her lips hard. She guessed she’d have to leave the house. Even if that was the last thing she wanted to do.
Still no news from Jaxon and no reply from Ophelia either. Though she made sure to send apology texts every day. She already called Jaxon, no response.
She had a quick shower and discovered that her whole house was equally empty, get bathing soap was almost finished, and her bathroom looked empty.
The only thing that was abundant was the toothpaste she just bought.
Sliding into pants and a tank top. She brushed her hair out to make it fuller and she also wore a face cap to hide her face. She planned to go to the grocery store, get what she wanted, and come back home again.
After dressing up, Ruby dashed out of her apartment.
“It feels so different” she sighed staring at the sky, she’s been indoors for two days and everything just felt different.
She quickly moved to find a taxi.
Ruby arrived at the grocery store, she picked up a few items that were going to last her for days. So far, no one had recognized her as she just walked around like a ghost, picking up the things she needed quietly.
She had finished picking up the things she wanted and was headed to the counter to pay when she bumped into someone.
“I’m sorry” she quickly apologized bending over to pick up her cap that had fallen off from her head.
“It’s noth…” The person’s voice trailed off as she stared at Ruby intently.
“You..” she pointed at Ruby who quickly wore her cap.
“You remember me right?” The lady asked as Ruby rolled her eyes.
Of course, she remembered her. Vanessa, the lady at her restaurant the other day.
“What in the world is the billionaire’s wife doing here of all places?” She asked in a scornful voice.
“You should have maids and servants at your beck and call. Geez. I’m beginning to doubt you really married Mr Vaughn” she countered, sucking in a long breath.
The way Ruby ignored her the other day still made her angry each time she thought of it and now they met again, she wore within her to teach Ruby a lesson and do what she lived doing the most. Shaming people who she felt were less than her.
“Are you done?” Ruby questioned in a low voice.
“If you are, kindly get out of my way. I need to pay for what I got” She added.
“How dare you!” Vanessa gnashed her teeth.
“Who do you think you are? You’re just a nobody, look at what you’re wearing?? I’ve never seen you wear designer” Vanessa scoffed in utter sarcasm.
“The media was probably speeding a rumor. You must be a slut that Mr Vaughn just picked up and he’s obviously done with you!” She kept on blabbing, but Ruby completely ignored her words. She was not a slut, so that would never get to her.
“Have a nice day” she flashed a smile at Vanessa who was fuming in anger as she walked past her and went to the counter to pay for what she got.
“I’m not done with you Ruby” Vanessa fumed, her eyes flashing with hatred towards Ruby.
…
Ruby came out of the grocery store with two bags in her hands containing the things she had gotten.
She stood in front of the grocery store, checking her phone if there had been any replies from Ophelia when she was suddenly pushed from behind.
“Arrh” she yelled in pain as she accidentally twisted her ankle when she fell, there was even a scratch on her palm.
She quickly turned to see who it was, it was Vanessa and she was not alone.
“This is what you get for messing with him!” Vanessa spat at Ruby who glared at her.
“Have you gone mad!!” Ruby snarled as her eyes watered.
She was literally on the floor in front of a grocery store that had people going in and out of it.
“No! You’re the mad one!” Vanessa fired back at Ruby who didn’t even have the guts to stand up from the ground due to embarrassment.
“Is she the Ruby who were talking about?” Vanessa’s friend asked as Vanessa nodded.
“Yes”
“Damn. She’s ugly” Her friend, Riley mocked as they both laughed.
“I know right? Mr Vaughn has not said a word about this, so I’m sure she’s just a slut he picked up. I can’t imagine him going out with someone like her. She lacks class” Vanessa said.
“Exactly, why would he even go for her when there are a lot of pretty women around? We ladies of the upper class..” Riley beamed feeling prideful of herself.
Ruby still remained on the floor sobbing quietly.
“Can you believe she’s a waitress?” Vanessa asked as Riley gasped.
“Really?”
“Yes, she actually served me days ago” They both let out a roaring laughter sounding like mad dogs.
“This will teach you never to walk out in me!” Vanessa pointed at Ruby.
“And I’ll teach to never to bully my wife!” A voice suddenly hissed, as all ladies looked up.
Ruby had to blink repeatedly to make sure she was not dreaming.
It was Jaxon. He was there.
“Mr Vau.. ghn..” Vanessa and Riley stammered in unison.
“Are you okay?” Jaxon ignored them as he asked Ruby who glared at him in anger.
Where the hell had he been?
He held her hand as he lifted her up from the ground. He held a stoic look on his face, expressionless as ever.
“Lock those two up. I’ll deal with them later” He ordered, the man that had come with him.
“Let’s leave this place” he began to lead Ruby to his car, ignoring her items that were scattered on the floor. Ruby wasn’t concerned about that either. What she wanted to do was slap him.
