Chapter 18
Ruby ran straight to Ophelia’s house as that was the place she wanted to be, she wanted the comfort of a friend. Someone to talk to as she felt so out of place at that moment.
She wiped her tears, sniffling as she arrived at Ophelia’s gate.
Her father worked as a manager and they were quite well-to-do.
“Please I want to see Ophelia,” she said to the security man at the gate.
He opened the fate immediately after for her, ruby usually visited Ophelia, so the workers around knew her quite well.
“Thank you” she muttered in a low voice as she ran into the compound and made way for the main building.
“Good day, Clara,” she said to the nanny, who was returning from the backyard.
“How are you, Ruby?” Clara asked as Ruby nodded.
“I’m fine..” She replied.
“Please is Ophelia in?” She questioned pointing at the door.
“She’s in a pretty bad mood and requested that no one disturb her, but I’m sure she’ll listen to you” Clara smiled at Ruby as she opened the door, welcoming her in.
“I’ll let her know you’re here” Clara informed, leaving afterwards.
Ruby waited nervously in the sitting room, Clara just mentioned that Ophelia was in a bad mood, and Ruby soon began to doubt that she’d want to talk to her.
A few minutes later, Clara came with a sullen look on her face.
“She does not want to see you” she announced as Ruby’s suddenly turned pale.
“Did you guys fight?” Clara asked curiously, as Ruby picked her bails nervously.
“She got more angry when I mentioned your name” she added. She was sure that both girls had a fight.
“Can I go upstairs? I can try to talk to her” Ruby requested.
“Sure dear” Clara said as Ruby quickly went upstairs and she headed straight to Ophelia’s room.
“Ophy” She called softly as she knocked on the door that was locked.
“I’m sorry. I swear, I regret not telling the truth. Please come out and let’s talk. I’m truly sorry, please ” Ruby begged, bursting into tears which she couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Please Ophelia, I really need you right now. Everything is so messed up. I’m confused. I’m sorry..” she kept on pleading, but it felt like she was talking to no one.
Ophelia who was inside the room heard all her pleas, she wanted to run out and hug her friend, but her anger had gotten back. She felt betrayed and she just couldn’t bring herself to stand up from the bed.
“It’s best if you leave Ruby..” she finally spoke as Ruby placed her hand on the knob.
“Ophelia” she called in anticipation. Perhaps there was a chance that Ophelia would change her mind.
“Since you love keeping secrets, you can as well deal with this yourself. Get out of my house!!” Ophelia fired coldly from within.
“Ophy…”
“Just get out!! Or I’ll throw you out!” She yelled angrily as Ruby stepped away from the door.
“Dear, I think it’s best if you leave for now” Clara appeared from behind as she placed her hands on Ruby’s shoulders.
“Wipe your tears and go home my child. When Ophelia’s anger dies down, you both can talk and overcome your differences. But now it’s best you leave, to avoid any more problems” she advised. as Ruby nodded.
“I will. Thank you ” she appreciated wiping her tears as she turned and left.
….
Ruby was standing patiently waiting for a taxi, she looked sullen and stressed out and that was because of too much crying.
She lost her best friend and job.
Two women came to stand beside her and they soon began to talk.
“Isn’t she the lady from the news?” One of them asked as the other stared at Ruby who ignored the both of them.
“Yes, she is” the second lady replied.
“I still find it hard to believe that she’s the billionaire’s wife..” the first lady scoffed as the other laughed.
“I know right? She’s not even pretty” The second lady rejoined.
Ruby just ignored them totally and acted like she did not hear anyone.
She held her purse tight waiting for the taxi to come.
“Not at all. I think she’s just a pushover. Look at how she’s dressed. And she’s even waiting for a taxi. Why wait for a taxi when your husband has a fleet of cars in his garage?” The first lady rolled her eyes.
“She looks pathetic!” She added.
“Well she should,” the second lady smiled.
“No one is ever going to accept a person like her. Have you seen the comments about her?” They both burst out laughing.
And almost immediately, it was as if God answered her prayers as a taxi came.
Ruby quickly slid into the car as he drove off.
The first thing Ruby did when she got home was to bring out her phone.
She had only seen the news in the newspaper Ophelia had given her, not the media.
“Oh my Gosh,” she gasped as the trending news was WIFE OF THE BILLIONAIRE SPOTTED WORKING AS A WAITRESS.
The top five searches were all over her.
She decided to check the comments and she immediately wished she never did so.
‘She’s ugly’ one read.
‘Yikes, why settle for less??? Geez’
‘A waitress!! You’ve got to be kidding me!’
‘Mr Vaughn please tell me this is a lie. You can’t be married to someone like her. She’s ugly!!’
‘I think it’s a lie. Mr Vaughn had not said anything about it. It can just be a rumor, I hope it is
‘A waitress??’
‘She probably married him for his money, so cheap!’
‘I’m sure he doesn’t love her. It’s so obvious
The comments were so terrible that Ruby had to put her phone away. She was everywhere and the cause was completely silent.
She decided to call him. She dialed his number and called his number up to three times but she got no response.
“Jaxon you bastard!!!” Ruby yelled in tears flinging her phone away.
Her life was being ruined and he caused it!
