Max Thomson had William Reid brought to the villa.
Erin Sutton had already been rescued.
When we met again, I had changed out of the tight-fitting clothes I used to wear and into a white dress that Max Thomson prepared for me.
Before, I always wore form-fitting clothes for mobility, with a gun tucked behind my waist.
Now, in a dress, it felt somewhat inconvenient.
“Amber?”
As I was pouring water, I heard someone call me from behind.
The voice was filled with surprise, confusion, and disbelief.
Setting down the kettle, I smiled and turned around.
In that instant our eyes met, William Reid’s pupils constricted, his body stiffening.
I tucked my hair behind my ear, feeling a bit shy:
“Not used to it? Me neither; it’s been so long since I wore a dress.”
He kept staring at me, his eyes gradually reddening, lost in thought, before finally taking steps towards me.
His voice was hoarse, yet couldn’t hide his excitement:
“Amber, you’re alive! You didn’t die!”
I maintained my composure and didn’t move.
I let him be held back by Max Thomson’s men, unable to come any closer.
“Let me go! Let me go, Max Thomson! Are you even human?!”
William Reid cursed, struggling and trembling with rage.
Meanwhile, Max Thomson walked calmly to my side, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
With a provocative tone, he said:
“I gave you a chance, but you chose Erin Sutton.”
William Reid’s face turned pale in an instant.
He instinctively glanced at me, forgetting to struggle.
Yes.
It was his choice.
He not only lost the gang but also lost me.
He lost everything.
I lowered my gaze, sighed:
“Max Thomson, that’s enough.”
“How could that be enough?”
Max Thomson smiled, then unexpectedly pressed a kiss to the corner of my lips.
Then he turned to William Reid with a challenging look.
My body tensed, and I shot him a cold glare, but before I could speak, I heard William Reid’s anguished shout:
“Max Thomson, let me go! Let Amber go!”
“You placed Erin Sutton beside me just to get Amber, didn’t you?”
“You little coward! We spared your life, and you still steal my girlfriend!”
“Let me go!”
Faced with William Reid’s curses, Max Thomson remained unfazed, even smiling with mockery.
It was a sneering smile, looking down at a loser.
His underlings surged forward, raining blows on William Reid.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
With each punch, William Reid grunted but continued to curse.
“Stop.”
I called out coldly.
Max Thomson’s men immediately halted.
I walked step by step towards William Reid, and as he looked at me, a glimmer appeared in his eyes.
“Amber, I knew you still cared about me.”
“I was framed; I was deceived by Max Thomson and Erin Sutton!”
“I care about you. We’ve been together for ten years; I…”
“Slap-”
His voice cut off abruptly.
Because I had already slapped him hard.
He turned his head from the impact, taking a moment to react.
This was the first time I had ever struck him.
Before, I was always the one standing in front of him.
Watching the mist welling up in William Reid’s eyes, I recalled that rainy day.
What had he said back then?
Oh right.
I stared at him expressionlessly, completing the words he left unspoken that day.
“William Reid, if you willingly withdraw, I’ll spare your life.”
