I scoffed coldly.
“Max Thomson, I shouldn’t have let you go back then.”
He seemed oblivious to my harsh gaze, his eyes still filled with warmth.
“You saved my life once; now it’s my turn to save you.”
Looking at the man before me, I could hardly connect him with the injured boy from years ago.
I never expected that my moment of compassion would allow him to build such a powerful gang.
Not only that, but he also orchestrated Erin Sutton’s approach to William Reid, driving us apart.
But then again, even if he hadn’t arranged it, William Reid’s wariness toward me wasn’t something that developed overnight.
Perhaps it was just a matter of time before we parted ways.
So, who can I blame?
Should I blame my excessive love for William Reid, or Max Thomson’s self-serving actions?
After pondering for a while without clarity, I couldn’t help but mock myself:
“Max Thomson, even if you keep me by your side, I won’t protect you like I did for him.”
He chuckled at my words, his voice clear like a spring:
“I don’t need protection.”
“I just need you to take care of yourself.”
