Chapter 07

Max Thomson had taken both me and Erin Sutton hostage.
By the time William Reid found us, it was already the following morning.
With Erin Sutton relaying information, Max Thomson timed his attack perfectly, catching most of William Reid’s crew off guard with other assignments.
After a night of fierce fighting, most of William Reid’s men were captured.
He was injured, blood dripping from his arm. Seeing the scene before him, he abruptly halted, his eyes turning red.
Two guns were aimed at the foreheads of me and Erin Sutton.
Max Thomson casually raised an eyebrow, looking at the pale-faced William Reid.
“One girlfriend, one mistress. Choose one.”
William Reid’s lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes filled with intense hatred.
After ten years of being by his side, I had never seen him in such a sorry state.
No matter what happened before, as long as I could stand, I would always be in front of him.
“William Reid…”
Beside me, Erin Sutton cried, timidly calling out to him.
Hearing her voice, William Reid gritted his teeth and answered.
“Kill Amber Willis, and I’ll take Erin away.”
Even though I already had an answer in my heart, I still closed my eyes.
Over the ten years, I had countless times chosen William Reid’s safety over my own life.
But reality told me that people couldn’t be replaced.
Disappointment flooded me, and instead of turmoil, my heart calmed.
William Reid’s gaze remained fixed on me, his voice soaked in sorrow:
“Max Thomson, don’t forget, Amber Willis spared your life!”
“So…”
Max Thomson smirked, hesitating before releasing Erin Sutton, allowing her to run toward William Reid.
“Thank you.”
He suddenly said this out of the blue.
William Reid’s brows furrowed sharply.
Just as he was about to say something, “Bang-” a loud gunshot rang out.
My body began to slide down, collapsing before William Reid’s shocked gaze.
As I closed my eyes, I saw William Reid’s crimson eyes fixed on me.
He seemed to want to rush over but was held back.
Perhaps it was better this way-better to never meet again.
A few hours later, in the big bed of the bedroom.
Max Thomson caressed my face as if touching a rare treasure.
“What did I say? He doesn’t love you at all. Do you believe it now?”
“You should be glad; if it weren’t for me, how could you have seen his true face?”
