Chapter 06

Book:The abandoned wife Published:2024-10-15

William Reid has placed me under house arrest.
He confines me, bringing meals three times a day, just enough to keep me alive.
I’m fairly agile, so he has locked me in a cell surrounded by walls, with three locks on the outside and guards watching.
It’s truly impossible to escape.
Calculating the meal times, I realized I had been confined for five days.
On the sixth day, Erin Sutton came to deliver my meal.
She opened the door, and sunlight poured in, forcing me to squint.
After bringing in the food, she turned to leave, and I called out to her:
“Hey, now that you’ve accomplished your goal, can you tell me who sent you?”
She paused but didn’t turn around, murmuring, “Max Thomson was right; you’re a very annoying person.”
“Boom-”
Hearing the name Max Thomson momentarily blanked my mind, and my heart began to race.
Years ago, I had teamed up with William Reid to raid his stronghold.
Back then, I was soft-hearted and let Max Thomson go, thinking him pitiable, rather than exterminating him.
Later, I heard he had built his own power and expanded, causing us a lot of trouble.
However, his influence was in Country C, posing no real threat to us, so we didn’t pay much attention.
Now, hearing his name felt like a blast from the past.
In front of me, Erin Sutton tilted her head, glancing at me from the corner of her eye.
“Don’t worry; you’ll meet him soon.”
I frowned, still trying to calm my emotions when she exited.
It seemed she wanted to validate her words.
About three days later, Max Thomson’s men suddenly attacked.
In the dead of night, gunfire erupted outside the cell.
I squinted at the cell door, ready for anyone to burst in at any moment.
After a while, I heard the sound of a lock being opened, and then the cell door was kicked open!
“Bang!”
I jumped up, preparing to defend myself.
Erin Sutton’s figure flickered by, and a young, handsome man stormed in.
With thick brows knitted and a sharp gaze, his expression softened completely when he met my eyes.
A flash of uncontainable joy crossed his face as he walked towards me.
“Amber Willis, it’s good to see you again.”
