William Reid rushed over, kicking my gun away and pulling Erin Sutton from the ground, sheltering her in his arms.
He glanced at the fallen prisoner in the distance, his voice icy. “Why are you aiming a gun at Erin? I told you to teach her, not to kill her.”
Watching them embrace tightly, my heart felt like it had been pierced, a cold wind blowing through the hole.
My hand stung where he had kicked me, and I felt a dull ache.
I looked at him seriously. “Erin Sutton is close to you for a reason; don’t be fooled by her.”
At this, William Reid’s face darkened completely.
“I’ve spoiled you too much over the years, trusting you to handle everything.”
“But you’ve taken our relationship for granted.”
“Today, you pointed a gun at Erin Sutton; tomorrow, will you dare to point it at me?”
His words were clear.
Everything I suspected was true-he was wary of me.
Looking into his eyes, I felt an emptiness inside.
It was as if something was swiftly slipping away, impossible to grasp.
“So, the reason you’ve been taking Erin Sutton everywhere is that you’ve disliked me for a long time?”
At this point, I felt a sense of grievance.
I could never have imagined that I would be willing to risk my life for him, yet he thought this way about me.
I hadn’t cried even when I was shot, yet now my voice choked with emotion.
“We’ve been together for ten years. I’ve protected and supported you, maintained your image outside.”
“The gang is the result of our joint efforts; I willingly let you take over.”
“And now, you’re treating me this way for a stranger?”
William Reid pressed his lips together, a hint of cruelty flashing in his eyes, as if he had given up: “Since you’ve seen through it, I’ll be straightforward.”
“Amber, your personality is too strong; you have to be the best at everything.”
“In the years we’ve been together, you’ve felt more like my bodyguard, a brother, without any romantic feeling.”
“With Erin, I can feel warmth.”
Saying this, he paused, his threatening gaze on me. “As long as you willingly step back and no longer get involved…”
He didn’t finish his sentence, leaving me plenty of room for speculation.
But looking at him, no matter which direction I thought, the outcome would not be good.
I instinctively curled my fingers, feeling a chill in my heart.
After a long moment, I said, “Are you breaking up with me?”
He averted his gaze, his voice devoid of emotion: “Amber, you might be mistaken. We were never together.”
After hearing his words, I forced a smile.
Never together.
Never together.
Then what were the wounds I endured for him?
Amber Willis-
You’re a complete fool.
The clouds in the sky slowly gathered, and thunder rumbled ominously.
I raised my handgun towards William Reid.
His expression shifted sharply, and suddenly a group of people surged from somewhere, surrounding me.
Countless guns were aimed at me, all former brothers, the same ones who once called me Mrs. Reid.
I scoffed and tossed the handgun to William Reid.
He instinctively caught it, frowning as he looked at me, curiosity flashing in his eyes.
The heavy rain poured down, and I wiped my face, mixing tears with rainwater.
“Here’s your gun back; I don’t want it anymore.”
