Chapter 04

At the shooting range, I stood behind Erin Sutton, holding her hand to help her steady the gun.
Pointing it at the hooded prisoner not far away, I said flatly, “If you want to stay close to William Reid, you need to know how to use a gun. Do you see that person? Just pull the trigger, and you can kill him.”
Erin Sutton trembled in fear, tears streaming down her face. “Amber, is there a rock or something? I can’t kill anyone.”
“Bang-”
As her words fell, I pulled the trigger using her hand.
She froze for a moment, staring as the man fell, blood spilling out, and then she screamed in a frenzy.
“Ah-”
“I killed someone! I killed someone!”
Watching her clutch her head and cry in pain, I recalled what William Reid had said when he taught me how to shoot:
“To stay by my side, you have to know how to kill; otherwise, you’ll be killed by someone else.”
Back then, I was like Erin Sutton, unable to accept it, my emotions crumbling as I knelt before William Reid, crying, “I don’t want to kill! I can’t…”
He kicked me away, his voice cold like a piercing wind. “Then get lost.”
Now, Erin Sutton was kneeling before me, crying in anguish. “I really can’t kill anyone. Please don’t force me!”
“There’s a reason I came to be near William Reid, but I didn’t mean to harm you!”
I quickly caught her words and squatted down to grip her chin.
“What reason? Who sent you?”
She cried like a wilted flower, but refused to say a word.
With the cold gun barrel pressed against her forehead, I narrowed my eyes. “Speak, and I’ll spare your life. Just don’t hover around us, and I’ll let you go.”
“I can’t say…”
Her eyes were red from crying, looking very pitiful.
But what was I?
I was in the underworld.
I had dealt with too many people-both pitiful and arrogant.
I remained unmoved, tightening my grip.
She winced in pain but dared not flinch.
I admitted I had my selfish motives; before she appeared, everything was fine between William Reid and me.
We had fought side by side, considering each other the most important people in our lives.
But ever since she showed up, everything changed.
A woman who looked just like me but was softer in nature was an extreme temptation for William Reid.
He was starting to distance himself from me, and I couldn’t let my hard-earned relationship be disrupted by Erin Sutton.
I bit my lip, gripping the gun tighter…
But just then, a cold voice came from not far away.
“Amber Willis, what are you doing?”
