Tilda was just about to say something more when Rosalind’s phone suddenly rang.
They all thought it was Ulric. Rosalind was even ready to hang up, but when she saw the number on the screen, she realized it wasn’t him.
After a brief pause, she pressed the answer button.
A very unfamiliar voice came from the other end, yet it was one Rosalind could never forget.
“Is your mother dead?”
It was Kennard, her father.
“How do you know?” Rosalind asked instinctively, then realized it must have been Sirena who told him. “Are you happy now?”
“What kind of talk is that? No matter what, we were once husband and wife. Where are you? I’ll come to see your mother.”
“There’s no need!” Rosalind’s voice was sharp, cutting through the wind that howled through the empty cemetery, making it even more piercing. “I warn you, don’t disturb her again, or else-”
Kennard chuckled, “Or else what? What leverage do you have to shout at me now? Wasn’t it just because you latched onto a rich man before? I will always be your father; my blood runs through your veins!”
“If I could, I would give it back to you.” As if she ever wanted any of this?
Rosalind would rather her father be a beggar, a homeless man, than such a heartless scoundrel!
Now that her mother had passed away, he could finally legitimize Sirena’s mother, the mistress. And he had the nerve to call and rub salt in her wounds.
“Tell Sirena she’s won completely. If she goes any further, don’t blame me for telling Ulric everything.” Rosalind tugged at her lips. It was pathetic that at this moment, the only leverage she had was still Ulric. “She should know what would happen if Ulric found out.”
“…” This time, it was Kennard who fell silent.
Although he didn’t know Rosalind’s standing in Ulric’s heart, since she could say this, she must have some confidence and cards up her sleeve! Things had developed to this point; he couldn’t ruin his daughter’s careful plans just because of a moment of sharp words.
“You see, I called just to pay respects to your mother. Why must we be at odds? Now that she’s gone, I’m your only remaining family in this world! Sirena said you want to leave Northville City? Come back, and I’ll find you a job. Let me make up for all these years of missing fatherly love.”
“Haha, do you believe what you’re saying?”
In the past, Rosalind couldn’t be bothered to say a word to him because she felt every word was a waste. But today, Kennard had truly angered her.
To make such cold remarks at this time meant he knew about the whole situation even if he hadn’t participated. He hadn’t stopped it and was even smug about the outcome.
Fine.
Then wait until she found out the truth; none of them would be spared.
After hanging up the phone, Tilda looked at her and quickly patted her back. “Don’t be angry! Rosalind, you’re pregnant now; you can’t get upset.”
As soon as the word “pregnant” was mentioned, everyone fell silent.
Realizing her words were inappropriate, Tilda quickly corrected herself. “I’m mainly worried about your health! Although you’ve decided not to keep the child, you still need to take care of yourself. After all, you and the baby are one right now.”
