“Do as you please.”
Rosalind appeared very tired, so much so that she didn’t even want to say another word to him. It didn’t seem like an act.
In fact, she really wasn’t in the mood to talk.
Her mother’s funeral was scheduled for three days later, but there were no relatives or friends she wanted to invite, and she didn’t want Ulric to know about it, so she planned to keep everything simple.
After saying this, the room fell into a dead silence again.
She steeled herself and looked up at Ulric. This time, she didn’t avoid his gaze; there was even a lack of emotion in her eyes. “Can you leave now?”
“Alright, I’ll go out. We’ll talk tomorrow.”
“Talk about what? Wasn’t I clear enough? Ulric, I used to think that being with you would lead to a smooth and successful life. Now I realize your family is too difficult to deal with. I can’t stand their condescending attitude. I don’t want to be with you anymore. Do you understand?”
Rosalind knew that if she only said she was breaking up because she was tired, he would never believe it. So she had to mix truth with lies.
“Then I’ll find a way to send them abroad.”
“Is it meaningful to deceive yourself? Will they accept me just because they’re abroad? Do you understand what I’m saying? I can’t stand the gap between us, can’t stand being looked down upon!” Rosalind raised her eyebrows and said each word clearly, “If I truly couldn’t live without you, that would be one thing. But you’re not important enough for me to endure all this!”
“Rosalind, give me some time.”
“I have better options. Why should I give you time?”
Ulric’s hand suddenly clenched. “Malcolm?”
“Yes!” Rosalind feared her emotions would betray her, so she quickly looked away while sneering, making her indifferent attitude seem more genuine. “His parents like me very much. My mother values him highly. Malcolm is also Tilda’s cousin. We are the same kind of people! Mr. Walters, it’s really hard for me to be with you! Just do me a favor and let me go.”
“Rosalind, how can you be so calm?” Ulric slowly stood up and took a step back. “You’re lying to me, you’re acting. Don’t think I can’t see through it!”
“As you wish.”
She repeated the same phrase and then lay back on the bed, saying nothing more.
After an unknown amount of time, Rosalind heard Ulric’s footsteps leaving and the door closing. Only then did she let the tears that had filled her eyes fall.
“I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”
Although none of this was Ulric’s fault, too many things had happened, and she couldn’t and dared not continue being with him as if nothing had happened!
Rosalind even resisted from the bottom of her heart the idea that her mother’s death had anything to do with Ulric’s parents! Because if that were the case, how could she face Ulric? With what attitude, what mindset?
She would rather believe that the truth was solely Sirena’s doing!
On the large bed, Rosalind tried hard to cover her mouth with her hand to stifle her sobs.
The cruel words she had just spoken were like cutting flesh; she couldn’t say them a second time! So she couldn’t let Ulric sense anything, couldn’t let him feel that she still had any emotions.
When her tears had completely soaked the pillow and dawn was breaking, Rosalind took out her phone and sent a text message to Sirena.
[I told Ulric we broke up. He will definitely investigate. I know you will handle the rest. I have two requests: First, don’t touch anyone around me again! Second, send me away.]
