“It’s nothing, I’m just tired.” Rosalind avoided his hand that reached out to grab her wrist. “Let’s talk about it tomorrow.”
Cedric stood between them, at a loss for what to do. He wanted to speak but didn’t know what to say.
Ulric glanced at him with his dark eyes and said in a deep voice, “You should go rest, Cedric.”
“Okay.”
After Cedric left, Rosalind had already gone into the bedroom by herself.
Ulric stood in the hallway for a while before slowly walking over and gently pushing the door open.
The person on the bed was already lying down, still in her clothes, with her eyes closed. It was unclear if she was really asleep.
After a moment’s pause, Ulric was about to leave and have someone investigate what had happened to Rosalind at the hospital when suddenly, Rosalind called out to him!
“Ulric, I said I’m tired.”
“… Then you rest, I won’t disturb you. I’ll sleep in the guest room tonight.”
Rosalind sat up in bed, looking at him seriously. Her lips moved several times but she couldn’t say anything.
Ulric walked back, took a deep breath, and said, “Or should I call a doctor to check on you?”
“The kind of tired I’m talking about isn’t something that can be fixed by sleeping.” Rosalind instinctively avoided his gaze and looked down. “Today I went to see my mom and found that Malcolm gets along very well with her. My mom was very happy. She has always hoped that I would be with Malcolm rather than trying to marry into the Walters family.”
“… What do you mean?”
“Ulric, the reason I didn’t agree to be with Malcolm before was because in terms of work and career, you could offer me more. If I were with Malcolm, he could only provide me with a relatively comfortable life but wouldn’t be much help for my future. But now I suddenly feel that always looking up to you and the Walters family is very tiring.”
Ulric said nothing, just stared at her intently without moving his gaze.
She didn’t have the courage to look at his face at that moment and could only silently clench her fists and finish what she had to say.
“So, I don’t want to continue-”
“Rosalind!” Ulric suddenly interrupted. “I won’t let you finish that sentence! Tell me the truth, what exactly happened? What did my parents say to you?”
“Do you really need to ask? They obviously told me that I’m not worthy of marrying you, that I’m not fit to be a daughter-in-law of the Walters family! What else could they have said?” Rosalind pretended to be harsh and stubborn, furrowing her delicate brows. “I really hate their superior attitude, as if I must marry their son! But in fact, wasn’t it you who schemed to deceive me? Hah, the Walters family-I don’t care! If I marry Malcolm, at least his parents wouldn’t treat me like this.”
Ulric just stared at the woman in front of him as if he didn’t recognize her.
How could these words possibly come from her mouth…
“In your eyes, is the difference between marrying me and marrying Malcolm just a matter of practical benefits?”
“What else? Ulric, I wasn’t interested in you when we were in school. Do you think I suddenly became interested after graduation? How naive you are!” Rosalind sneered. “If you weren’t the president of W Group, if you couldn’t pay for my mom’s medical treatment, after I lost my virginity to you the first time, I wouldn’t have contacted you again!”
This mocking sneer was like stomping Ulric’s pride into the ground.
Rosalind thought he would be very angry and might even impulsively curse her out!
But he didn’t.
Nothing happened.
The air in the bedroom suddenly felt frozen; neither of them spoke until redness crept into the corners of his eyes and his voice trembled slightly as he said, “I don’t believe it.”
