His simple WeChat message instantly dispelled all of Rosalind’s fatigue and worries from the entire day.
This must be the power of love, no wonder everyone yearns for it.
[Alright, take care of yourself out there.]
[Okay.]
Putting down her phone, Rosalind took a shower to relax.
After changing into her home clothes, she instinctively checked the date when her period was supposed to arrive.
In the past, when she didn’t have a married life, Rosalind’s period would often be delayed due to work or life stress, so she wasn’t particularly worried this time either. She thought it must be because of the accumulated stress affecting her health again.
But…
It had never been delayed more than three to five days before.
It seems she really should go to the hospital sooner rather than later!
Suddenly, the doorbell rang outside.
Rosalind quickly went to open the door, and sure enough, it was Ulric’s assistant! He was carrying several large bags, which looked very sumptuous.
“I’m just one person, how can I eat so much!”
“Mr. Walters was worried you might not like some of the food, so he had me buy everything that could be prepared quickly.” The assistant was now very respectful towards Rosalind, a noticeable change from his previous attitude.
Perhaps before he only saw her as someone Mr. Walters was involved with, but now it was clear that she was Mr. Walters’ cherished one!
His courteous and respectful demeanor made Rosalind feel a bit embarrassed.
“It’s late, you should go back and rest.”
“Thank you, Madam.”
“… Just call me Rosalind, I’m not used to that title.” She felt that she didn’t quite fit that role.
The assistant was momentarily stunned but then nodded, “Then please rest early. If you need anything, you can call me directly.”
He handed over his business card with a bow before leaving.
Watching his figure disappear into the night, Rosalind felt both helpless and amused. She picked up her phone to call Ulric. It rang once before she remembered he might be busy and quickly hung up.
About five minutes later, Ulric called back.
His voice was deep and magnetic, “You called me.”
“Yes, did I disturb you?”
“No, I usually set my phone to silent during meetings. I’ll set your number to always ring no matter what.”
“No need!” Rosalind quickly said, “Really, there’s no need! I didn’t have anything urgent; I just wanted to say that dinner has been delivered. There’s too much; I can’t finish it all, and it will go to waste.”
Ulric paused for a moment, “I was worried you might not like other food since you’re used to my cooking.”
“That’s true.” Rosalind sat on the edge of the bed, gently stroking the blanket they both used, speaking softly for once, “I really haven’t gotten used to being at home without you.”
After she finished speaking, Ulric didn’t respond immediately, making Rosalind feel a bit awkward.
After a few seconds, she asked softly, “Hello? Is something wrong?”
“I just finished my last meeting and am heading home now. I’ll be there in about four hours.”
Rosalind was shocked, “It’s already very late! You should rest there; you have work tomorrow.”
“But you miss me.”
Ulric’s voice held a trace of undisguised joy, “So I have to go back.”
No matter how late it is, no matter when.
“Ulric…”
“You don’t have to wait for me; just eat and go to sleep.”
“But… I want to wait for you.”
