Ulric paused for a moment and chuckled softly, “Alright, wait for me.”
Putting down her phone, Rosalind ate a simple meal and carefully stored the leftovers in the refrigerator.
Even if Ulric was wealthy, there was no need to waste food!
After everything was settled, she glanced at her phone again. Three minutes ago, Ulric had sent her a photo of himself in the car.
He must have been really exhausted, as Ulric wasn’t dressed in his usual impeccable suit and tie. Instead, he had unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt. His tall figure leaned against the back seat, and she could faintly see the string of numbers tattooed on his body.
Perhaps not used to taking selfies, his handsome face showed a somewhat stiff smile, with a touch of boyish shyness and awkwardness.
Rosalind saved the photo and then sent him a message: “Drive slowly and stay safe.”
She didn’t want to waste any time, so while waiting for Ulric, she opened her laptop to handle some project matters.
The contract for material procurement from the partner had already been sent over. Since Sirena had left the company’s legal department, resulting in a major reshuffle, the review process would undoubtedly be slow. To prevent project delays and ensure the contract’s authenticity and validity, Rosalind decided to verify each material procurement price herself.
This wasn’t something she should have been concerned about, but Rosalind couldn’t help it. She didn’t want any issues with the project, even if it meant extra work for herself.
Thinking about being tired, Rosalind quickly took advantage of the computer’s startup time to schedule a health checkup for herself.
Although she had said she could wait to go with Ulric last time, Rosalind still wanted to go by herself first to understand her condition better.
Three hours later, when Ulric opened the door to their home, he saw Rosalind still focused on recording material prices at her computer.
Normally, she would have gone to bed by this time, so her small face inevitably showed signs of fatigue.
Hearing the sound, Rosalind looked up, “You’re back.”
“Yes.” Ulric put down his things and walked over with long strides, “Now that I’m here, go rest.”
“I’m almost done! I’ll sleep after finishing this; that way Cedric can receive it first thing tomorrow morning.”
Ulric glanced at the data on her computer and frowned slightly, “Cedric made you do this?”
Rosalind quickly waved her hand, “No, no, no, I insisted on doing this myself! It’s not uncommon for partners to skim off the top when procuring materials. Although it’s hard to know exactly how much their quoted prices differ from actual procurement costs, I’ve checked wholesale prices for everything. This way, we won’t just accept whatever they quote us.”
Seeing that he seemed to want to say something else, she hurriedly added, “This also serves as a warning to them! I’ve recorded the phone numbers of various material companies. If I have time tomorrow, I’ll call them one by one to get their quotes.”
Ulric interrupted helplessly, “I’ll have someone else do this. You already have enough work.”
“But I’m happy being busy.” She feared nothing more than having nothing to do! It made her feel like a useless member of society with no value.
Ulric reached out and pulled her into his arms.
He would rather Rosalind be the kind of woman who was willing to be taken care of by him. But he knew very well that if he pampered her too much and kept her confined, she would undoubtedly find every opportunity to escape.
