Rosalind could vaguely remember him gently stroking her hair over and over until she completely lost consciousness and fell asleep…
Perhaps because she was utterly exhausted, she slept very deeply.
Before leaving, Ulric had thoughtfully drawn the curtains tightly shut, allowing no light to seep in, which caused Rosalind to sleep until noon!
When she finally reached for her phone, she saw a missed call from her mother and another from Cedric.
What could he want?
Rosalind quickly sat up to clear her head and then called him back.
“Cedric, you called?”
“Yes, I wanted to ask when you plan to return to work.”
“You should have called more times. I accidentally overslept… I’m sorry! If it’s urgent next time, please call multiple times,” Rosalind apologized hastily.
Cedric chuckled on the other end of the line. “Mr. Walters already informed me that you were still asleep and not to disturb you. He said you’d contact me once you woke up.”
“He… he told you that?”
Does that mean Cedric knows about their relationship too?!
“Who else but Mr. Walters would know you were still asleep?”
Rosalind couldn’t help but twitch her lips a few times.
Cedric, ever perceptive, laughed softly. “You don’t need to worry. No matter what your relationship with Mr. Walters is, your work abilities are still needed! If you weren’t competent, you wouldn’t have stayed at W Group. I won’t attribute all your efforts to Mr. Walters taking care of you.”
“I didn’t think that far; it’s just… a bit awkward,” she said, recalling how she had intentionally kept her distance from Ulric in front of Cedric before.
“Awkward? Actually, knowing this now, I admire you even more,” Cedric paused. “Despite having such a relationship, you’re still willing to invest money and effort into projects with me and endure the hardships of business trips. It’s impressive.”
Cedric had always thought that the position of the president’s wife at W Group was like a grand crown-whoever wore it could live a life of luxury without bowing to anyone or anything.
He never expected that person to be right beside him! And someone who spoke so politely, just wanting to learn a bit from him.
“With you saying that, I don’t even know how to continue this conversation…”
“Then let’s not talk about it. Just come to the office! Lawyer Reynolds has resigned in disgrace, admitting to framing you. Although the evidence still needs some time for thorough investigation before being made public, you can return to work legitimately as long as you’re not afraid of gossip.”
“I’ll come back to work! I’m not afraid of what people say,” Rosalind responded immediately.
Back when she was in school and working part-time, classmates had gossiped about her, mocked her, and belittled her. She had heard it all and no longer cared.
Being able to return to work was what mattered most!
“Alright, come find me when you arrive.”
“Thank you, Cedric.”
After hanging up, Rosalind quickly got up, washed up, and took the subway to W Group’s headquarters.
Standing at the entrance of the towering building, she took a deep breath and walked in.
As Cedric had predicted, although no one dared to openly discuss her along the way, their eyes were constantly assessing her with various implications.
Some were curious, some gossipy, and some even maliciously scrutinizing.
Rosalind silently noted the sources of these glances, knowing they were staunch supporters of Sirena’s faction. She would have to be wary of hidden threats in the future.
