Malcolm felt an indescribable heaviness in his chest, a sense of suppression that he could never surpass.
Even though, by many people’s standards, he was already quite outstanding.
…
Rosalind arrived at the hospital room, and her mother seemed to be in a good mood at first glance.
Usually, she wore a long face, but today there was even a hint of a smile!
“Did something good happen?” Eva was happy, and Rosalind’s tone became more cheerful as well. She then placed the sugar-roasted chestnuts she had bought on her mother’s bedside table.
“Can’t I just be in a good mood?”
“Of course.” Rosalind personally peeled the chestnuts for her, placing them one by one into a small box.
Eva looked at her daughter and couldn’t help but ask, “That Ulric’s mother didn’t give you a hard time?”
Rosalind’s hand paused, and she shook her head, “No.”
“See, that’s the attitude from the man’s side! They think their son won’t suffer any loss, so it’s okay to play around for a while!”
“Mom!” She couldn’t help but frown, “Can you stop thinking so narrowly?”
Eva ate the peeled chestnuts and chuckled, “You don’t listen to me now, but one day you’ll regret it! Your grandmother told me the same thing back then, and I didn’t listen either. So now I’ve made up my mind to let you bear the consequences yourself!”
Of course, as a mother, she had made other preparations for her daughter! That was Malcolm.
Eva thought it would be good to keep in touch with Malcolm more often, so he wouldn’t feel completely hopeless. That way, if her daughter got hurt by Ulric, Malcolm could still be there for her, unlike herself… living a life of melancholy.
But she wouldn’t say this because she knew her daughter’s temperament well.
Rosalind timely changed the subject, not wanting to continue this conversation with her mother. She left the hospital only after the sun had set.
Downstairs, Ulric’s car was already waiting there.
Sometimes Rosalind was quite curious about when exactly Ulric arrived! He never sent her a message or anything; he just waited there.
“How’s your mom?”
After getting in the car, Ulric reached over to fasten her seatbelt.
“She’s quite happy today. I don’t know if something happened or if someone made her happy. I asked her, but she wouldn’t tell me.” Rosalind squinted her eyes and smiled, feeling pretty good.
After all, she hadn’t argued with her mother again, which was the first step in convincing her.
But when she turned to look at Ulric, he seemed… somewhat displeased? His thick eyebrows were furrowed, and his thin lips were tightly pressed together.
“Did something happen at the company? Ulric, if you’re busy, you don’t have to come pick me up. I can go back by myself.”
“It’s not the company.”
“… Then is it your family?”
He started the engine and looked straight ahead. “No.”
Rosalind couldn’t make sense of his unusual behavior at all. She had no clue because after they returned to Easthaven Bay, he behaved normally-changing clothes, cooking dinner, holding a video conference, taking a shower, and going to bed.
Just when she thought she might have been too sensitive, Ulric’s tall and lean figure suddenly loomed over her, pinning her down firmly!
That night, Rosalind barely closed her eyes! He wanted her again and again as if trying to prove something. Even when dawn broke, he still held onto her waist tightly…
She was so exhausted that she couldn’t lift her arms. Finally, he let out a muffled groan and whispered in Rosalind’s ear, “You are mine.”
