“He won’t agree.”
“Are you so sure?” Eva raised an eyebrow at her daughter and sighed heavily. “You really are my blood, with a temperament exactly like mine! I once thought that if I constantly warned you and reminded you, you wouldn’t walk the same path as me. But fate loves to play tricks on us.”
Rosalind knew her mother was thinking about her father again.
She also knew that her mother wouldn’t harm her, but Ulric had done so much for her, and she trusted he wouldn’t either.
“If Ulric were the type to easily break his promises, he could have just fired me and been with Sirena. That would solve all the problems.”
Just like Cedric said, Ulric had a thousand ways to extricate himself, to push away all the troublesome matters at hand, to disregard her well-being and focus solely on the interests of W Group. But he didn’t. Even when she wavered multiple times, he never agreed, instead telling her in his exhausted voice.
He refused to divorce.
“Forget it. No matter what I say now, you won’t believe me.”
Rosalind looked at her. “So, does that mean… you agree with us?”
“Of course not!” Eva quickly denied. “I just don’t have the energy to argue with you anymore. When Malcolm visited the hospital earlier, he mentioned that you’ve been having a hard time. Every time I say something harsh, you get upset for a long time.”
“…” Rosalind hadn’t expected Malcolm to say such things to her mother.
Eva smiled, as if reminiscing about something. “I don’t easily trust a man. Over the years, Malcolm is the first one I’ve felt I could trust a little because he always considers your position. Even if he knows it will offend me, he still speaks up.”
“Mom, Ulric does these things too! I’ll find a time for him to come meet you?”
“No need.” Eva waved her hand. “Meeting him is pointless, it would just be a waste of time.”
She didn’t believe that Rosalind had any chance of climbing up to the Walters family.
The reason she didn’t want to argue with Rosalind anymore was because Eva knew that someone from the Walters family would take action to break them up, she didn’t need to do it herself.
She also remembered what Malcolm had said.
Now, her daughter was her only family left in this world. Harsh words would only make her sad and worsen their relationship. It wasn’t right to do that.
Rosalind wanted to speak up for Ulric several times but chose not to in the end.
It wasn’t that she had changed her mind, she just felt that now wasn’t the right time! Maybe after Ulric’s mother agreed, it wouldn’t be too late for him to meet her mother then. By that time, Eva would have nothing more to say.
After settling her mother in, Rosalind left the hospital.
Ulric’s car was already waiting at the entrance.
She glanced at her phone and saw no messages from him.
“How long have you been waiting?”
“I just arrived.” Ulric’s cold and handsome face finally showed a hint of a smile when facing Rosalind. He got up and opened the car door for her.
Rosalind was taken aback. “You could have sent me a message, I would have come down earlier.”
“It wasn’t urgent. I didn’t want to interrupt your time with your mother or make her feel like my presence was taking you away from her.”
