Callie’s heart had grown numb. Litzy flipped through the pile of documents on her desk. “Why haven’t you been to the office these past few days? Is everything okay at home?”
“… Sort of.”
“These documents need Mr. Oconnor’s signature. Don’t forget.” Litzy noticed her unusual state and gently reminded her.
Callie closed her eyes, feeling utterly exhausted.
Eventually, she went up to the top floor, but the secretary informed her that Mr. Oconnor was not in.
She nodded without saying anything. The secretary quickly pulled her aside and whispered, “Ma’am, Mr. Oconnor is at this location for a meeting today. The documents are urgent; you should go directly to him.”
She handed over a slip of paper with an address on it.
Callie crumpled it and threw it into the trash. “I’m not going.”
The secretary awkwardly retrieved it from the trash. “It’s really urgent.”
Callie glanced at her, irritated, then took the paper and left.
In a place filled with music and dancing, Callie didn’t rush to Nelson’s private room because she wasn’t sure how to face him yet. She first went to the ladies’ room to calm herself.
Leaning against the door, she took a deep breath and smoothed her hair. When she looked up, she froze in place.
Standing before her was the man who had been troubling her for days!
His clothes were disheveled, with a couple of buttons undone, revealing his collarbone. His breathing was uneven, looking as if he had just narrowly escaped an assault.
In reality, a scantily clad woman was draped over him.
Nelson’s expression changed rapidly, something breaking in his eyes.
To Callie, it looked like a guilty conscience.
Her heart sank further, feeling utterly desolate.
They stared at each other from a distance, both filled with complex emotions.
The woman hanging on him finally noticed something was wrong and stopped, slowly turning around. “Who are you?”
Even though Callie had caught her husband cheating, she couldn’t withstand such a powerful visual shock.
It felt like a bolt of lightning striking her head.
Nelson’s expression wasn’t much better-serious and dark, becoming increasingly stern.
Callie sneered without saying a word. She hid her shock and slowly walked forward, helping the girl put her clothes back on piece by piece. As she buttoned her up, she spoke softly, “Actually, not wearing underwear would increase your chances. And having an affair here is too risky; it’s embarrassing if someone sees.”
The woman seemed to be doing this for the first time and was trembling all over.
A hot tear fell on the back of Callie’s hand. She paused, stood up straight, and looked at the girl calmly. “Are you leaving on your own or…”
Before she finished speaking, the girl ran out of the restroom, seemingly afraid of further humiliation.
Dignity can be important sometimes.
Callie turned back slowly but seriously. Her face showed no anger; instead, she smiled and asked Nelson, “Are you okay?”
Nelson was terrifying when silent, his face dark as if a storm was brewing.
He said nothing but stared at her with undeniable authority in his eyes.
He spoke in a low voice, “Nothing to say?”
Callie remained calm, without any jealousy or anger a wife might show. She simply looked at him and said, “I didn’t see any kiss marks on her. I must have come at an inconvenient time.”
