Chapter 309: Neither of Them Would Back Down

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-10-15

Ylosea never lacked luxury cars or wealthy heirs, but few dared to be as reckless as Nelson, who drove down the highway like he was piloting a rocket, pushing the car to its limits.
Callie, pale-faced, felt the car’s speed and gripped the seatbelt tightly, clenching her teeth to keep from screaming.
The car finally stopped at Paucaster Villa Complex. Callie fought back the urge to vomit, glaring at Nelson with undisguised hatred. “Nelson, this is all you’re capable of.”
He was truly angry, lifting her chin with a firm grip. “Normally, I wouldn’t care about a life, but since you’re still Mrs. Oconnor and we haven’t divorced yet, I don’t want the reputation of a young widower. It would be a bit embarrassing.”
He spoke quickly, as if trying to avoid something.
Callie stared at him as if he were a stranger to her. After a moment, she suddenly raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.
Nelson didn’t dodge. His face turned slightly from the impact, and when he looked up again, he licked his lower lip, both seductive and sinister. Without hesitation, he got out of the car, opened the passenger door, and dragged her out, throwing her to the waiting servants with disgust. “Watch her.”
It was an order.
He drove away swiftly, without any hesitation.
Callie’s long-held tears fell as soon as he left. She broke free from the servants’ grip and squatted on the ground, crying uncontrollably.
Nelson still returned to Paucaster Villa Complex in the following days, maintaining his usual routine but never stepping into the building. Even a fool could see that this time it wasn’t just a regular argument between Nelson and Callie.
In the early hours of midnight, Callie couldn’t sleep; she was suffering from insomnia.
When it started raining outside, Callie finally fell into a light sleep. Just then, her phone on the bedside table vibrated loudly in the dark, startling her.
The caller ID showed an unknown number.
Who would call her in the middle of the night?
Callie’s finger hovered over the screen, unsure whether to answer. It felt like Pandora’s box-she didn’t know what would happen if she opened it.
The phone stopped vibrating after a while.
Relieved, Callie put the phone back down, but it suddenly rang again, making her jump with anxiety.
The number kept calling for almost half an hour. Callie watched from a distance, unsure why she didn’t answer. The caller was persistent. Finally, in a moment of frustration, she grabbed the phone and answered, “Who is this?”
She was genuinely scared.
What scared her more was the silence on the other end. No sound at all. Callie asked again with a trembling voice but received no response.
The call ended.

Nelson’s message was clear: she could continue working but leaving Ylosea was out of the question.
After sulking for a few days at Paucaster Villa Complex, Callie thought about her unfinished work and finally washed her face and headed to Oconnor Group.
As expected, Regan didn’t come to work. Litzy said she had some family matters to attend to.
What could it be? She was probably just avoiding Callie.
Callie didn’t care. It seemed that the plagiarism scandal she was involved in hadn’t been exposed yet. The event organizers handled it well; no one knew about her incident with Skye.
Nelson always did things flawlessly.
