Callie finally realized she had several unread messages on her phone.
– Are you home yet?
– Let me know when you get home safely.
She quickly replied: On my way home now.
Actually, it wasn’t entirely confusing. For Jaquan, such women were rare. There was only one possibility: Marilyn. Had she returned to the country?
No, that couldn’t be right. Regan and Marilyn were close friends. If Marilyn had returned, Regan would have known. Regan’s behavior today didn’t seem out of the ordinary.
Callie held her phone, hesitating for a long time, unable to draw any conclusions. Her heart raced with a sense of foreboding.
After the Scott Group’s anniversary celebration, she returned to her normal work routine. Nelson’s business trip was particularly long this time, keeping him too busy to even call her.
Callie’s life revolved around three main points: visiting her father, focusing on her design work, and preparing for the semi-finals. Finally, the day of the semi-finals arrived, and her work successfully advanced. So did Regan’s.
Regan always looked at people with an air of superiority. “Winning an award takes more than just this.”
Callie didn’t argue with her.
Among the semi-finalists, Jett’s name was absent. She sighed as she scanned the list but then saw a familiar name: Skye.
Skye? Skye!
She had also made it to the semi-finals?
It had been a long time since Callie had heard anything about Skye. She wondered for a moment. Skye had been fired from Oconnor Group due to issues with her character and conduct, but she still had some professional skills. She must have been trying to make a comeback by winning an award.
Callie thought it was simple, but not long after, she received a call from the competition committee. “Miss Marsh, your final entry is remarkably similar to another contestant’s work. We regret to inform you that we need to investigate.”
It was like a bolt from the blue. Callie stood up abruptly and said incredulously, “How is that possible? Whose work?”
“Skye.”
Impossible. She hadn’t seen Skye in ages. They had no contact whatsoever. How could their works be similar?
The committee didn’t provide any further answers.
Callie instinctively wanted to call Nelson but hesitated for a long time and ended up calling Bridger instead.
“Design work?” They sat face-to-face as Bridger looked at her computer.
“Yes, I can assure you I haven’t seen her, but I don’t know if my computer has been hacked.” Callie was anxious. “I thought about it and didn’t know who else to turn to but you.”
Bridger gave her a kind look. “Nelson isn’t in Ylosea. Of course, you can come to me if you have any problems.”
A warm feeling spread through Callie, as if she truly had a home and confidence because of Nelson.
“I installed a firewall on your computer last time I fixed it. It couldn’t have been hacked,” Bridger said, implying there were no signs of intrusion. “Think again. Are you sure you haven’t seen Skye?”
“No,” Callie confirmed firmly.
The last time she had beaten Skye up, she didn’t know what happened afterward.
Bridger tapped his fingers on the table. “Instead of waiting passively, why not take the initiative?”
“What do you mean?”
About two hours later, Bridger received a document detailing Skye’s current situation. She had broken up with Caden and had an abortion. Since then, she had been job hunting and hitting dead ends. Her life was quite simple.
“More likely, someone used your computer and sent the designs to Skye.”
