He slowly turned his head and met Callie’s awkward gaze. At that moment, her heart raced, the person she admired…
“The person I admire is indeed present.”
The crowd gasped as she closed her eyes.
“But she is not in good health, so she won’t be dancing.”
With those words, Callie breathed a sigh of relief. Watching the man’s broad back gradually recede, she felt a bit lost. For a moment, she had foolishly thought there was something between them.
Tsk, she shouldn’t have overthought it.
She glanced at her watch, deciding to leave in ten minutes. Nelson had just replied: Just finished.
“When are you coming back?”
She thought for a moment, then deleted the message and replied: Take care.
Regan was still busy socializing. Callie figured that Regan was the young lady and no one dared do anything to her in such a setting, so she left the hotel first. However, as soon as she walked into the corridor, she saw a familiar figure.
Lucia?
She was getting out of a car and, under the guidance of a waiter, strode into the hotel. Shortly after, Jaquan appeared, shook hands with her, and they walked together towards the end of the corridor.
Why is she here?
Callie took a deep breath. The collaboration between Oconnor Group and Scott Group had ended; there was no reason for Lucia to meet Jaquan. Could there be some secret between them?
Without thinking further, she carefully followed them. Her high heels made no sound on the soft carpet.
They entered a room, leaving the door ajar. Callie hid in a corner and vaguely saw a young woman in a white dress appear. She couldn’t see her face clearly but noticed her frail appearance and outstanding temperament.
Lucia faced the woman, and after exchanging some words, gave her a hug.
Callie’s frown deepened. Who is this woman? Could she be the one Jaquan mentioned he admired?
As she pondered, a shadow loomed over her. “How long are you going to watch?”
Startled, Callie fell backward. Just as her head was about to hit the wall, the man shielded her and covered her mouth, dragging her into the stairwell.
“Mmm!”
Callie struggled desperately, panting as she stared at the indifferent man before her. “What are you doing!”
He had clearly gone inside earlier; when did he come out?
Jaquan let go of her, laughing angrily. “You were spying on my private life; I should be asking you what you’re doing.”
Callie lost her confidence immediately, speaking softly. “How can this be considered private life?”
“What did you see?” Jaquan propped one hand against the wall, still smiling nonchalantly. “What, are you jealous?”
“Ugh!” Callie couldn’t hold back. “You’re dreaming.”
Jaquan just laughed slowly.
“Who is she?” She finally asked. “What is your relationship with Lucia?”
Jaquan’s smile gradually faded as he wiped the lipstick off her lips with his thumb. “Callie, I can’t tell you for your own good.”
She didn’t understand and shook her head. “All I know is that I won’t sleep tonight if you don’t tell me.”
He lowered his head and chuckled softly. They were very close; Callie wanted to dodge but couldn’t.
“Go back; your driver must have been waiting for a long time.” With that, Jaquan left without hesitation and re-entered the room.
This time, he closed the door.
Callie was left bewildered, unable to make sense of it all.
Kieran had indeed been waiting for a long time. He tapped the ash off his cigarette in the driver’s seat. “Nelson called earlier asking where you were.”
