The grand event of the Scott Group was no less impressive than that of the Oconnor Group. Jaquan was a meticulous person who wouldn’t let himself be outdone by Nelson.
It was only upon arriving at the hotel that Callie realized he had indeed returned to the country.
Regan, in her high heels, ran forward and hugged the distinguished man, looking up with a smile, “Jaquan, when did you arrive?”
It seemed he had just returned today.
Callie stood there, feeling a bit awkward, watching Jaquan pat Regan’s head while his eyes were on her. “This morning.”
She suddenly recalled what Sabrina had once told her, still unwilling to believe it.
“Miss Marsh, we meet again.” As he approached, Jaquan smiled faintly and extended his hand, observing the changes in her appearance.
“Mr. Scott.” Callie nodded politely, not overstepping any boundaries.
Inside the venue, Regan was the social butterfly, chatting with everyone and seemingly in high spirits.
Callie looked around and only saw a few familiar faces from the Oconnor Group. After greeting them, she sat in a corner and sent Nelson a message, asking if he had finished his work.
There was no reply, probably because he was still busy.
Several directors were speaking on stage. Callie rested her chin on her hand and listened idly, getting a rough idea of the Scott Group’s development trajectory.
Unlike the twists and turns of the Oconnor Group, the Scott Group had made its fortune in real estate with foresight and vision, thus enjoying smooth progress.
None of the directors bore the surname Scott; they were all outsiders but willingly served Jaquan, clearly indicating his capability and status.
Callie always thought that although he seemed carefree, he actually had deep schemes and strategies.
Otherwise, Nelson wouldn’t have considered him a rival for so many years.
“What are you thinking about?” A melodious male voice brought Callie back to reality. She was startled and looked up to see Jaquan in a bright suit.
He sat down beside her, and she instinctively moved aside.
“Aren’t you busy today?”
Jaquan stretched and leaned back in his seat. “You are an honored guest; how could I not entertain you?”
She didn’t care to listen to this.
The Scott Group had invited celebrities, and many people gathered to watch them, paying no attention to their conversation in the corner.
“Your husband hit me hard at this critical moment. It hurts.” His eyes lifted with a faint smile. Callie looked away.
She roughly understood that Nelson had indeed taken action against the Scott Group. Was his business trip related to this?
“The business world is like a battlefield; I don’t understand it as a woman.”
Jaquan chuckled and rotated his wrist. “Last time I told you not to go to Ylosea, but you still went, didn’t you?”
Callie looked at him without responding, which was a tacit admission.
Seeing this, he nodded knowingly. “He’s still the same, using every opportunity to the fullest.”
His sarcastic tone made Callie uncomfortable. She frowned. “Jaquan, you don’t have to beat around the bush. Of course, I will judge for myself whether it’s right or wrong.”
At this moment, the celebrities left the stage, and there was a commotion as people urged Mr. Scott to dance with his partner.
The spotlight shone on Jaquan and Callie beside him, making them conspicuous. She instinctively shielded her face, her heart pounding.
Jaquan remained calm and unmoved in his seat.
“You really never trusted me.”
Callie desperately avoided the spotlight and kicked his leg. “Answer them quickly!”
After a moment, under the surprised gazes of everyone, Jaquan slowly stood up. “Who should I dance with?”
Someone shouted, “Of course, with the one Mr. Scott fancies!”
