Callie couldn’t figure out who it was and felt a bit helpless. “Bridger, do you trust me that much? What if I plagiarized her work?”
Bridger laughed. “You’re not that kind of person.”
Callie sighed.
He handed her a recording pen. “Her schedule tonight is at Club Paradise. She’s meeting a man. I’ve arranged for someone to replace him and set up an opportunity for you.”
His meticulous planning eased Callie’s mind considerably. “Thank you.”
He waved his hand. “No need to be polite.”
So, Callie spent the entire day at Club Paradise. She explained everything to Nelson in detail, ending with a bit of a whine: Why am I so unlucky?
There was no immediate response from the other side.
Feeling anxious, she called him, but there was no answer. However, she noticed that Nelson’s number was now registered in Ylosea.
Had he returned?
Could he have just gotten off the plane?
Callie didn’t think too much about it; her mind was preoccupied with the evening’s events.
That night, Skye arrived as expected. It seemed like her first meeting with the man, and she was very cautious. But it wasn’t long before they both entered a private room.
In her Bluetooth earpiece, Bridger’s voice came through. “This man is a director at a design company. She wants to climb the ranks.”
Callie scoffed; she always disliked such tricks.
After about an hour, the man finally started asking questions. The intoxicated Skye was barely coherent, but some key words could still be discerned.
“When I win the award, many companies will want me. You securing me now is a smart move.”
“How do you know you’ll definitely win?”
“Heh… because that b*tch is good, but don’t worry, the committee won’t find out.”
Callie was shocked. So it was her!
“How did you get her designs?” he probed gently.
“Well… thanks to that young lady. I thought she was tricking me, but she really got them.”
In an instant, Callie realized it was Regan… Of course, only she could get close enough to see the designs. When she saw them, she acted disdainful, but it turns out she did this disgusting thing!
Skye mentioned Callie’s name more than once, mixed with all sorts of vile insults.
Outside, Callie gripped the recording pen tightly. Inside, the man finished questioning and started coaxing Skye to sleep.
Callie stood there in a daze, unable to snap out of it.
Until Bridger’s voice came through the Bluetooth earpiece. “Leave now.”
Callie turned to leave, but perhaps due to her distraction, she stumbled and instinctively reached for a vase in the corner. Losing her grip, the vase toppled over and shattered on the floor. The shards cut her hand, causing a sharp pain that made her cry out like a cat.
The loud noise startled Skye awake. She threw off the covers and got up, facing the equally shocked man. “Who’s outside!”
Her guard immediately went up as if realizing something. She got out of bed and ran towards the door.
The man didn’t have time to stop her. Skye yanked open the door and saw Callie standing there with a panicked expression.
In her earpiece, Bridger’s urgent voice said something, but Callie clutched her bleeding wrist, her mind blank.
In that frozen moment, Skye lunged at her like she’d seen a mortal enemy.
“It’s you, b*tch!”
