Nelson tacitly agreed.
Callie’s mind wandered to Jaquan’s face, and she felt a bit lost. “Can I ask, besides a woman, do you and Jaquan have any other conflicts?”
It seemed unreasonable that they would be at each other’s throats in business for so many years over just a woman.
Even if Jaquan was persistent, Nelson didn’t seem like the type to hold such a grudge.
The man stopped his actions, his sharp gaze intimidating as he lifted her chin. “At a time like this, you’re talking to me about another man?”
Callie choked up, and the next second, he thrust forcefully, causing her to cry out in pain as a punishment.
Her foot was still injured, but she couldn’t afford to miss work. Nelson wanted to get her a wheelchair, but she scolded him for making a fuss over nothing and settled for crutches instead.
When Kieran drove her to work, he almost spat out his coffee. “I don’t see you for one day, and you’ve already lost a leg?”
That brat. Callie threw the files in her hand at him. “Open the door!”
Lucia had won a victory, and for a long time, financial news was filled with stories about her and the collaboration between Oconnor Group and Scott Group earning a good reputation.
Only Callie knew that this surface peace wouldn’t last long.
Jaquan seemed not to have returned to the country yet. She scrolled through her phone contacts repeatedly but ultimately didn’t call him.
“Callie! Come quickly,” Litzy walked into the office early in the morning, excitedly holding her phone. “This year’s Golden Bund Award is starting preparations. Do you want to participate?”
Callie was a bit surprised and leaned over to take a look. “It really is.”
The Golden Bund Award is a famous domestic interior design competition. It’s not only a classic award but also a benchmark for the development of the domestic design industry. Whether or not you win, being nominated is an acknowledgment, and fame can come overnight.
“You haven’t participated in competitions these years because you were busy making money, so your resume isn’t that outstanding. But now your situation is much better; you can totally showcase your strength to the outside world.” Litzy was very enthusiastic, even more excited than Callie. “So, how about it? Participate.”
Callie smiled all along. She actually had thoughts of participating; presumably, every designer in this field dreams of winning an award.
“Alright, I’ll find time to sign up.”
Before Litzy could speak, a voice suddenly came from outside: “I advise you not to overestimate yourself. I’m determined to win the Golden Bund Award.”
A very cold and childish voice came from Regan.
She walked in holding a document while saying, “I’ve seen your designs; they are practical but not suitable for competitions.”
“You think you know everything. Then who do you think is suitable for the competition? You?” Litzy got angry just seeing her.
Callie held her back. “Isn’t it too early to draw conclusions before the results are out?”
“Then let’s try.” Regan looked down on them with her chin up, placed the document on the table, and left.
Litzy got furious seeing her condescending attitude, rolled up her sleeves, and waved her fist. “What’s there to be arrogant about? Just because she knows Mr. Oconnor and became a deputy director, she doesn’t know who she is anymore!”
Callie hobbled to her desk on crutches and sat down, feeling awkward about admitting that she had arranged Regan’s position herself.
“We all secretly call her a spoiled princess. Callie, don’t take it to heart.”
She shook her head. “Regan has been nominated for several prestigious awards both domestically and internationally, so it’s not really an insult to me. I don’t mind.”
Litzy was taken aback. “She really has such a background?”
“So don’t underestimate her.”
