However, Callie did not agree with what Regan said.
All her works had always been for her job, naturally practical, but that didn’t mean she lacked her own ingenuity.
After Litzy left, she logged into the website to sign up and sent a message to Jett, reminding him to participate. He replied quickly, saying he had just signed up as well.
She had a social engagement today. The other party’s boss had set the location at a high-end club, a place where business discussions were never simple. Fortunately, before Callie went, she had informed Bridger in advance to keep things as simple as possible. Appearing with a crutch and looking quite pitiful, nothing went wrong, and the cooperation was smoothly discussed.
Bridger leaned against the door, dressed flamboyantly. “Mrs. Oconnor, you really treat me as one of your own now, don’t you?”
Callie flipped her hair and rested her arm on his shoulder, whispering, “Since you call me Mrs. Oconnor, I naturally consider you one of my own.”
Bridger chuckled.
He had always had a good impression of her, and recent news from Nelson suggested a continuation of their marriage.
As he escorted her out, he casually asked, “Where’s Nelson? Is he in Ylosea recently?”
Callie truly didn’t know what Nelson was busy with lately. The last time they met was at the villa on the Azure Coast, where he got angry because she mentioned Jaquan during their sex.
“He should be.”
Bridger teased, “Should be? You really have a big heart as Mrs. Oconnor. Aren’t you afraid someone might usurp your position?”
Callie didn’t care, “If they can, I’ll hand it over willingly.”
“Such confidence.”
“For now, yes.”
Bridger stopped walking and put his hands in his pockets. “Did Nelson recently fire an assistant named Weber?”
Cora Weber.
Callie instinctively stood up straight. “What about her?”
“She’s been frequently seen at several nightclubs lately, seems to be mingling with some people. Not sure what she’s up to. You should be cautious.”
Callie was surprised and wanted to ask more, but Bridger’s phone kept ringing, so he didn’t say much more. “I won’t inform Nelson separately about this. Make sure to tell him.”
Callie had a hunch. She thought Cora was just on vacation but was actually fired?
Cora was one of the women who had been with Nelson from the start and knew most of Oconnor Group’s secrets. To be dismissed like this showed Nelson’s ruthlessness and boldness.
But she didn’t understand what mistake Cora made. Was it because she was found to admire her boss?
No, Nelson was so sensitive that he would have known such a thing long ago. He kept Cora around for so many years because she was still useful. Could it be that she had now lost her value?
Callie kept thinking about this until she left the club but couldn’t figure it out.
The next time she heard from Nelson was two days later when she was on her way back to Paucaster Villa Complex from the hospital.
The spring evening was slightly chilly. Looking around in this concrete jungle, she could see signs of life reviving. It was at this moment that Callie realized another year had passed and another year had begun.
There were small stalls selling seasonal fruits by the roadside. The vendors smiled warmly at passersby. Walking among them, Callie felt a sense of real life amidst her fatigue, which made her relax a bit.
Nelson called, his voice slightly hoarse, asking where she was.
Indeed, Callie wasn’t a woman with a strong sense of possession. She didn’t ask what he had been busy with these days or maybe she already trusted his character completely.
