Regan was ambitious.
“I’ll get back to you later.”
Callie hung up the phone and looked at the man. “Did you hear that?”
Nelson remained calm and gestured for her to eat first.
“I’m more interested in your opinion. Are you willing?”
“She has good skills and a solid foundation. I’m willing to let her join the design department, but I’m worried it might cause trouble for Mr. Oconnor.” She smiled with crescent-shaped eyes. “So, I need your approval.”
Nelson snorted, “Since you’ve already decided, why ask me? Do you think I wouldn’t return this favor for you?”
That was a tacit agreement. Callie was pleased and instinctively grabbed his hand, kissing him on the cheek with a hint of intimacy.
Nelson paused for a moment, his gaze deepening.
After replying to Regan, Callie immediately went to use Nelson’s computer, under the pretext of borrowing it.
With someone joining, she needed to handle some work.
Nelson tapped her head. “From now on, set a rule: no working from home.”
The word “home” felt too warm, making one’s heart flutter.
Callie sat on the carpet using the computer and looked up at the man sitting on the sofa, giving a faint smile. “Only you are allowed to break the rules?”
The man ruffled her hair, smiling without a word.
The next day, Callie met Regan.
Regan in the workplace was different from her usual arrogant self; she became a very capable woman, mature and beautiful.
Regan was aggressive and domineering, looking down on everyone with a powerful aura.
Callie walked into the design department with documents in hand and shook hands with Regan, maintaining a business-like attitude. “Nice to meet you. Welcome to Oconnor Group.”
“Your honor.”
Callie had Litzy show her around.
She could roughly guess Regan’s reason for insisting on joining Oconnor Group-to bring her down.
But it didn’t matter.
Soon after, several more employees reported in. With Oconnor Group’s reputation, it was easy to find experienced and capable staff.
Callie had instructed the interviewers that new employees could be fresh graduates with no experience but must have good character.
Among the newly hired employees, Regan, with her work experience, stood out significantly. She excelled in interior design, becoming a prominent figure.
Kieran lounged in the office with nothing to do, munching on sunflower seeds and watching the commotion.
…
On the day the collaboration project with Lucia fully launched, Nelson met her on the top floor.
The elegant woman stood by the floor-to-ceiling window. She was very thin, no longer the figure he once looked up to as a child.
“This spot used to hold your father’s desk,” Lucia said tiredly, turning to look at Nelson.
He didn’t meet her gaze and placed tea leaves into the teapot. “That desk was thrown out the day I joined Oconnor Group. This place has been completely renovated; it’s no longer the old office.”
Lucia smirked. “Heartless enough, just like my son.”
Nelson’s hand paused as he poured water. He looked up. “If he spoke like that, you’d surely scold him for being rude, right?”
Lucia shrugged. “Different people require different methods of education. I see no problem with that.”
The tea was green, and he placed a cup in front of her.
“I’ve done what I promised. I hope you’ll keep your word too.” Nelson’s voice was cold, devoid of warmth.
Lucia sat on the sofa, slightly tilting her head back. “If I wanted to act, I would’ve done so last time at Kenker Hotel. Her eyes were filled with naive stupidity. Rest assured, I’m not so despicable as to harm a young girl.”
