“You better be,” he said, not even bothering to open his eyes.
“But Nelson, do you really have genuine feelings for her?” Lucia asked seriously.
He smirked. “Doesn’t it look like it?”
She narrowed her eyes.
Through the Bluetooth headset, someone was reporting the progress in real-time.
“Madam, as the project implementer, also came today.”
“After a live broadcast, the total transaction amount is $35. 6 billion, and the funds are fully sufficient.”
“That house was sold in ten seconds, exceeding expectations.”
Hearing this, Nelson lazily lifted his eyelids. “The objective has been achieved. You can leave now.”
Upon hearing this, Lucia glanced at the time and frowned. “So soon?”
He didn’t respond.
She didn’t believe it, but facing her ruthless son, she had no choice but to accept it. She stood up and, before leaving, said two words, “Thank you.”
Lucia successfully broke into the domestic market. She had more extensive and broader plans ahead.
The headset continued to relay information.
“Madam accepted an interview with reporters. When asked about the previous public opinion on the Oconnor Group’s construction site, she handled it perfectly.”
Nelson was absent-minded and didn’t pay attention. He took off the headset and sat there in a daze.
He didn’t know how much time had passed. As night fell, dark clouds gathered outside, and a storm was brewing. His phone on the table kept vibrating.
He snapped back to reality and saw that the caller was Callie. He rubbed his temples and answered, “What’s wrong?”
“… It hurts,” a weak and aggrieved voice came through.
Nelson’s expression changed dramatically.
The traffic was bad today, and he was stuck on the road when it suddenly started pouring rain.
The atmosphere in the car dropped to freezing point; even the driver didn’t dare to look at the man in the back seat.
Nelson, with a dark expression, instructed Nancy on some precautions over the phone.
Then the secretary called the Ylosea Traffic Department. After a brief explanation, traffic police were dispatched quickly, and the road was cleared.
They arrived smoothly at Paucaster Villa Complex. A servant held an umbrella to greet him, but Nelson didn’t even glance at it and strode directly into the rain, heading straight for the master bedroom.
“How did you manage to get hurt at home?” His tone was reproachful, but to an observer, it was full of concern.
Callie was lying on the bed with her foot already bandaged. The depth of the injury was unclear. Her expression was indifferent, but seeing Nelson appear made her more embarrassed.
Nelson picked Callie up by the waist and let her sit on his lap to examine her foot. His brows furrowed with anxiety and distress. “Why is it still swollen?”
The family doctor put away his tools and explained, “The swelling is because Mrs. Oconnor stood too long in high heels. It’s not a big issue; it will be fine soon.”
Nelson looked at Callie with an unreadable expression.
Callie instinctively looked away. “There was a live broadcast today. I had to be there.”
Nancy bowed slightly and apologized, “Madam broke a glass, and I didn’t clean up the shards properly. It’s my oversight; I’ll accept any punishment.”
Callie nestled in Nelson’s arms. “It’s my own carelessness.”
Nelson didn’t even glance at Nancy. His tone wasn’t harsh but carried finality: “If it happens again, resign voluntarily.”
“… Yes.”
He then dismissed everyone in the room, leaving Nelson and Callie alone.
The atmosphere changed instantly.
Outside, the wind and rain were fierce. She pressed close to his chest, hearing his strong heartbeat, adding to the intimacy.
There were still water droplets in his hair.
Their body heat quickly warmed each other up.
