Chapter 263: Taking on the Project

The entire conference room fell silent.
The person giving the report couldn’t stop trembling, and Callie thought he was about to cry.
“The government wants to reclaim that land to build a new park city, saying it’s beneficial for applying for a civilized city status. This issue is really unsolvable.”
That piece of land was bought by Oconnor Group at a high price to build villas for sale. Who knew the government would suddenly want to reclaim it at a low price? They couldn’t resist, so they were stuck in a stalemate.
The conference room was silent; everyone knew this task was difficult.
Nelson’s gaze was sharp as a knife, and he slammed his pen down. “Have you found anyone?”
“We did… but they are unwilling to compromise.”
If the government insisted on taking that land, letting it go at a low price wouldn’t be impossible and could even earn a good reputation. The tricky part was that Oconnor Group hadn’t fully acquired the land yet.
Several holdouts were still resisting.
Callie suddenly raised her hand. “I currently don’t have any projects on hand. Why not let us handle this one?”
It was like a thunderclap out of a clear sky.
Everyone turned to look at Callie, filled with disbelief and admiration…
A brave newcomer…
Nelson raised an eyebrow, quite skeptical. “You?”
Callie couldn’t stand the scrutinizing gazes. She closed the cap of her pen, appearing nonchalant but determined. “Since it’s been delayed for a month, letting us try won’t hurt.”
Nelson approved.
The meeting ended perfectly. As they walked out, everyone breathed a sigh of relief because Nelson had shifted the focus to Callie.
The man sitting next to Callie almost wanted to thank her profusely, his eyes filled with tears as he tightly held her hand. “I’ll send you all the information right away!”
Callie only had eyes for the man’s white coat corner as he turned away, his back resolute.
Within an hour, the news of Callie stepping up spread quickly throughout Oconnor Group, making everyone recognize this brave young woman!
Additionally, somehow, the story of her drawing pigs also got out. Litzy was shocked, her jaw almost dropping. “Do you know what you’re doing…”
Callie had arranged to meet with several holdouts on that piece of land today.
Facing such a situation, she couldn’t help but complain a bit. “Callie, why did you volunteer?”
Callie answered quickly, “For the bonus.”
She received an eye-roll in response.
The land had mostly been demolished, and despite being covered in snow, the mess was still visible. Knowing someone from Oconnor Group was coming, several holdouts had already gathered.
Negotiations were left to her subordinates while Callie went to inspect the holdouts’ living conditions-it was terrible.
Yet they clung to their small plot of land, hoping to get more money.
Her subordinates reported that the compensation offered was already very high.
These common folks not only demanded exorbitant amounts but also spoke harshly.
Before long, her hot-headed subordinates were fuming, wishing they could forcibly evict them, cursing under their breath. “People’s greed knows no bounds.”
Callie stopped him. “How much do you want?”
They named a figure.
She suddenly felt sympathy for Nelson. Not only did they have to transfer this potentially profitable land to the government, but they also had to pay these people so much money.
It was a huge loss.
These families seemed to have agreed on this figure and wouldn’t budge.
“Honestly, we can afford this amount,” Callie said with her hands in her pockets, looking unhurried.
