In the tense atmosphere, she remained composed. “If we insist on forced demolition, a few of you won’t be able to stop us. By then, the original money will be directly transferred to your accounts. Are you going to sue us?”
“We have legally purchased this land in full. Think about it, is it worth wasting your time and energy here with us?”
Her gaze swept over them firmly. “My father is about your age. I understand your desire for money; I want money too. But while I want money, I also want to maintain my dignity.”
Her words were sharp, piercing deep into human nature.
Callie took a deep breath, her face darkening. “This is your last chance. Lower your price, and we can still negotiate. If you remain stubborn, we won’t be polite.”
The crowd didn’t expect such a young girl to speak so incisively, hitting them right in the heart. Their expressions began to soften.
At that moment of stalemate, someone suddenly rushed out from the corner and pushed Callie hard when everyone was caught off guard. “Don’t listen to her! Look at her clothes; she doesn’t look like an ordinary person! It’s all negotiation tactics, all fake!”
With the brute force of someone used to manual labor, Callie, unprepared and wearing high heels, staggered back a few steps and nearly fell into the deep ditch dug by the excavator.
“Callie!” Litzy quickly reached out to grab her.
Callie’s face turned pale; she was genuinely frightened. Her shoulder blade hurt.
The man was also startled, staring blankly.
Callie sighed, feeling a bit discouraged. “Let’s call it a day.”
The others also breathed a sigh of relief. The pusher stood proudly, very pleased with himself. “I told you, it’s all fake!”
Callie had walked only a few steps when she stopped at his words. Furious, she bent down to pick up a brick and was about to throw it at him.
The man taunted shamelessly, “What? Hit me then!”
Litzy quickly intervened, “Don’t get angry; it’s not worth it.”
In the car, Callie took off her coat and checked the bruise on her shoulder blade alone in the back seat.
Litzy waited outside, talking to her. “I told you, these people are impervious to reason; they can drive you mad.”
The news spread quickly. Before they even returned to Oconnor Group, word had already gotten around that Callie had faced setbacks with the holdouts.
As soon as a subordinate saw Callie, they approached her. “Miss Marsh, are you alright?”
Her face was grim with anger. She said she was fine and walked into the elevator, heading straight to the top floor.
The proposal was ready; she wanted Nelson’s approval for immediate forced demolition!
The secretary saw Callie and nodded without stopping her, a faint smile with deep meaning on her face.
It was then that she realized something. “Brooke, hasn’t Miss Weber returned to work? It seems like I haven’t seen her for a long time.”
Brooke replied, “Mr. Oconnor said that Miss Weber has worked hard over the years and can take a few more days off during the holidays.”
Capitalists aren’t usually so kind-hearted. Callie frowned, guessing that something must have happened.
Her hand paused in mid-air as she was about to knock on the door. After thinking for a long time, she slowly withdrew her hand. Rationality returned; facing Nelson would only make her angrier.
She tilted her head, trying to see what was happening inside while thinking about finding another way.
Just as she turned around abruptly, she unexpectedly bumped into a firm chest. A resonant voice sounded above her head, “Get inside to look.”
